I've been in tube denial for a while now.
Fade in & out/ treble/no treble/crackle/static
finally all together in the 1st set last night.
It wasn't the cord, inputs at the amp & guitar, amp to cabinets
cords or even the wiring harness I gracefully tried to yank on
through the f hole during the tune!

Time to 'fess up & pay up.
I got 6years of playing almost every weekend out of those
Groove tubes, but in retrospect, too long.
I just ordered a set of TADs (the smaller bottles will fit better
in my HRDeluxe head) & JJs w/ the 832 for the V2 position.
Got a chance to hear that 'less gain' 832 in a buddy's HR and with
both Mojo & Euro offering it, it should work/sound good.

Went with TheTubeStore.com
Now to make sure that "yanked" wiring harness is OK!!!

While you are at it, the "fade in and out" sounds like possible solder joint issues. The "crackle and static" is likely either preamp/PI tubes and/or solder joints. Also, be sure to set your bias with new output tubes.

shimmilou, Bias must (or should) be done with matching sets?
You're right though, I never had the tech do a 'go through' for this head, ever.
I'm pretty fortunate that I've never had to.
After six years, new tubes & a check-up is not a lot to ask for.
Thanks shimm,
Vin

You should use a matched set of output tubes, and always check the bias when changing output tubes unless you use the exact same brand and type of tubes, and even then, check the bias to be sure that they are actually the same. The bias on this amp was likely very cold from the factory anyway, and the amp sound can benefit greatly by simply setting the bias to a more appropriate level than the factory setting.
