(I don't mean to bombard the board with a bunch of new threads. I hope I'm not violating some kind of unwritten protocol in doing so.)

Anyway, I'm curious as to what kinds of extension cabs you all have used with the BDRI. Of course, Fender makes an extension cab for the whole Hot Rod line of amps, and I want opinions on that cab as well.

Also (and this may be a silly question, so forgive my naivete if it is), has anyone used just a PA speaker as an extension cab? I ask partly because I just hooked up my BDRI to a pair of Peavey SP-5ti cabinets (2 8Ω in series) and tried it out. Not a great option in that you have to really crank the amp in order to get any crunch out of it. I might try using just one of them----I don't think I should have any problem hooking up an 8Ω speaker cab to the 4Ω output jack on the amp. After all, the Fender Extension Cab is 8Ω.

Thanks ...

Actually, the output jack on the BDRI is for an 8 ohm speaker. 4 ohms (internal speaker in parallel with the external speaker) is the minimum the amp is rated for. If you want to use a 4 ohm extension speaker, you need to plug an open jack into the internal speaker jack.

Doh!

Thanks bluesky. I guess I would do well to look at the manual before asking questions here that can be answered there.

Anyway, I think I'll go right now and try out the single Peavey cab. I'm inputting to the "full range" jack on the SP-5ti, which also has bi-amp inputs. We'll see how it goes.

What about the Hot Rod Deluxe™ 112 Enclosure? Is it highly regarded by those who have used it?

Also, are there many people here who use the BDRI as a "head-only"--disconnecting the internal speaker and using an external cabinet? What are the pros and cons of doing that?

Thanks.

I replaced the stock speaker in my BDRI with an Eminence Cannabis Rex. Best speaker mod you can do.

IMO, the Celestion G12P80 speaker in the HRDlx ext cab is too dark in the closed back cab, no highs. I swapped the Celestion in the cab with the Eminence from my BJr (same speaker as the HRDlx I and II), and the sound is much better in the cab, and the Celestion sounds great in the BJr, open cab.
