I've been reading about everyone's opinion regarding power tubes preamp tubes and the like. It occurred to me that everyone must be correct in some way or another. The thing that confuses me is that there is no way to convey the kinds of tone you can achieve using said tubes, speakers or whatever on this forum. I guess if you say , ""it sounds like a........" or a ".........." you may be relating some idea of what you're trying to say but it's still vague to most of us. How do we describe what good "tone" is? How do we know or recall the between distinction the reissue Deluxe Reverb or the original unless we were able to A/B it in real time. By this I mean all things being equal. New caps rather than 50 year old caps. New speaker vs. original, ....I think you get the idea. I think the bottom line is, do YOU like what you hear. I do I like what I hear. Trying not to be cynical but it seems like everyone here is an authority on the subjects. Anyway, my question is, again, "How do we know what the other person is describing when he says, 'great tone'?" BTW, I'm not knocking anyone, I really would like to know what anyone else has to say regarding this. Mahalo nui.

Sorry, this is off the subject but can anyone at "Fender" explain why they retracted the "IPO" offering? Thanks.

Whenever in doubt, you'll always have great tone by merely diming your amp's mojo control.

Post this question in the Lounge. There is a thread there on the IPO.

To steal a line from Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart, "I may not be able to define great tone, but I know it when I hear it."
