I am not an audio expert, so I was wondering if some of you guys could explain to me if what I am trying to do is worth doing.

I have a Frontman 212R I would like to connect to a FM412 cabinet. Based on my limited knowledge of audio configurations, it seems to me I can gain something from this configuration. However I don't know how much I will gain from it. I don't want to use the speakers on the combo amp. In fact I would like to bypass them. The combo amp is rated 100W at 4 Ohms and so is the cabinet.

Is this configuration ok as far as the technical specs? Also, what will I gain from it?

Thanks,

The 212R does not have a speaker output jack. You would have to disconnect the stock speakers and add a jack (probably on the lower back panel) and run a cable from the jack to the new cab. You would have to listen to it yourself to decide if you gained anything from it.

I have a Fender Roc Pro 1000 Combo that I want to connect to a speaker cab, The Speaker cabinet i plan to use is 300W 8ohms" the Amp itself il i believe about 100 Watts with 8ohms output connector. Since the impedance matches It should not matter what the wattage on the amp and cabinet are. I am correct or will fry everything????

Also at the back of the amp it says, Input Power 120V ~ 60Hz, and 300W below. does this mean that this amp will utilize an average of 300W an hour of hydro?

Kruedog, if your amp is rated as you say it is then you won't damage anything by connecting that combo. Your amp will only push 100Watts into a speaker that can handle up to 300Watts. And because the speaker CAB is the matched impedance for your combo (8ohms), all is good. Your speaker should always be rated equal or higher than your Amp output in Watts so that it doesn't get damaged at full power of the amp. As for the mains rating on your amp - that is how many Watts of electricity your amp draws from the supply to produce 100Watts to the speaker.

The 300W input power specification on the rear panel is what your Roc Pro will consume under maximum output conditions.

The amp will drive the 300-watt extension cab fine. Just be sure to disconnect its internal speaker before wiring up the alternate load.

You should be fine. May not get much breakup in the speakers due to them being higher rated in power handling but they shouldn't blow up either.

You won't get any tube style breakup in the speakers. That 4x12 cabinet will crush your brain before it breaks up, but then that's what the Roc-Pro is for - it's a multi-channel distortion machine!

I know - I used a Roc-Pro 1000 (100W) head live for several years into a Fender GC-412 cabinet. Solid state with tube overdrive, it was and still is a killer rig for classic rock.

+1

Years ago I played with a rhythm guitarist who owned a similar rig (his cab was a DT412 though, with the Celestions). An outstanding machine for any type of heavy rock. Very "Marshall-esque".
