Has anyone tried dampener rings on 6v6s & or the rectifier tube? I been wanting to try the high temp foam rings from eurotubes..has anyone used that product or others? I tightened the clips but it still rattles at higher volumes
Thanks

Holgate1... I don't like silcone rings on output or rectifier tubes. They eventually leave a residue. And I think they dampen the tone a bit too much.

Don't tighten the socket clips! this just transfers more vibration to the tubes. The best rings to go for are the heavy metal ones. These help lower the resonance frequency without altering the high-end shimmer (like silicone rings).

I view silicone rings like cheap rubbers... if you catch my drift.

I have been using the Eurotube dampers for a couple of years now. I have them on all the tubes in my BDRI, Weber 5F6A clone, and on the 6V6 in my 5F1 configured Champion 600. No evidence of any residue. Don't hear any negative impact on the amp tone either. Can't say that I hear any real impact as none of my tubes rattle to begin with, but I figure it doesn't hurt.

I have been using these for quite some time, just as a preventative measure on combos. They are high temp silicon and hold up quite well. There are a few different sizes, choose accordingly (see: "other items" for sale from this seller).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-X-WHITE-TUBE-AMP-DAMPERS-FOR-EL34-6L6-GZ34-KT77-6CA7-5881-6L6WGB-/370545478301?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item56463b4a9d

I also use them on preamp tubes (different size of course). They do dampen the tone a little bit, especially on the output tubes, so you might or might not notice a little less of the shimmering highs. I didn't notice any damping of the tone when using them on the preamp tubes.

Here are a couple of shots of them on my BJr and HRDlx, I have had them on these amps for a couple of years now with no apparent degradation. I just moved them to verify no residue on the tubes, and these dampers are still flexible and comparable to the new ones that I have.

Thanks Bill. Going to try the euros dampeners...as i liked their jj tubes per your recommendation .
Marc p.
The jjs with bias adj. & my new cannibis rex speaker...the amp sings unbelievably..way better then stock...no compparison.!
Another thought, i may also pick up an extension cab & put another CR in it just for fun..or loud drunken stereo fun that the wife just loves. How about A powering my bl.jr with a extension power cable from drri to a cr speaker in the bl.jr & use it as an extension cab.
Powering 2x 8ohm speakers is still ok for the drri as i understand .

The rings can't hurt, but they might not help. If the rattle is bad enough, the tube should probably be replaced.

I used to use these in my HRDlx.

They worked well. Expensive though. But still no guarantee you'll never get tube rattle. I never noticed any tonal change at all.
There's only two ways that I know of to get rid of tube rattle. One is to get some NOS tubes. They're just built better anther way ant the one I use now is to either switch to a head or run the amp through external speakers.
