Take the tubes out. Pull the speaker and reverb/tremolo plugs. Undo the power cord hold down. Now, unscrew the four screws that hold down the top two straps on the cabinet. There are nuts on the chassis side. Grab them as the strap screws are unloosen.

Now, gently pull the chassis out of the cab from the rear. This should do the trick.

Thanks, I got it. And I'm playing it now. :P

I like a LOT!

There are no separate chassis retaining nuts on any of the blackface re-issues. The traditional keps were supplanted by the factory spot-welding a nut at each of the four chassis-strap screw holes at the bottom (one FMIC "improvement" that actually makes sense).

Arjay, yeah I knew that.

Goes to show you the last time I worked on a DRRI ---- like 5 years ago. Been doing mostly non-RI's --- except for that '62 Reverb Unit RI.

I played my Martin D-28 through that Ampeg Jet today. Boy did it sound sweet.

Hey! Do you own or played a National Dobro? I have an in for one, MAYBE. I've always loved Knopfler's "Romeo & Juliet." Well... it's a thought.

Have a great day. And Hou-Tex: Glad you got the amp cooking, again.

Between the tube upgrades, biasing and now this speaker, I have to take a nap.

Its easier to disconnect the internal speaker power line (int.spkr) on the back of chassis & disconnect the speaker wires: + & - .... then unscrew & drop the baffle out (the 4 wood screws that hold the wood section with the speaker ). Its easy, just dont over tighten any screws. Joy!

I decide to wait and try the new speaker again just in case I was trying to justify the new speaker or just had too many adult beverages to make an honest opinion yesterday.

I would highly recommend the CR for the DRRI. At least for my style of clean, it was a big improvement. It has more bottom end and is just clearer throughout the total tonal range at least with my guitar. Hard to explain, but when I hit each individual string, the tone seems to be more pronounced and more equal where the standard speaker seemed to sound better on some notes rather than on all.

If I had to add a complaint, it would be that it sounds a little "Ice Picky" at the top, but that could be a combination of my EQ settings, and the speaker not being broken in yet.

When I changed out my Peavey VK112 speaker for a Texas Heat, I was like ok, that's a little better. But putting the CR in my DRRI is definitely noticeable.

Two thumbs up.

Post an updated sitrep after thirty or forty hours of play.

Yep, I had similar when I recently installed a CR into my extension cab, I was surprised that it was a little ice-pickey and harsh sounding in the high end, but I believe it's just a very stiff cone and it is slowly improving. Pretty tough speaker to get broken in, but once there, should be sweeter sounding, I probably have only 12 hours on mine at this point.

I found the overall tone of the c.rex is way better than the stock. The jensen sounded muffled in a way. I just rolled down the trebble a hair if the ice pick was a little to much on the c.r. in certain settings & the speaker responds immediately. Its nice to be able to use a od petal at a lower volum
e without the annoying buzzing-fizzyness of the jensen. Great improvement

My DRRI still has the original speaker in it. On my quest for tone I've thought about changing it for something else. I have a buddy that swears by JBL speakers in his DRRI. My DRRI has the Fritz Mod, which enables the reverb and vibrato on the Normal channel, which I think is a better sounding channel. With overdrive pedals this amp has tons of upper harmonic content that I just love. I have never pulled the trigger on a new speaker because I was worried that it might reduce the mojo this amp has with pedals. What do you guys think? Has your new(different) speakers helped in the overdrive as well as the cleans? I don't like to push my amp to speaker break up. When I plugged in my DRRI to the 2 x 12 cab I built a while back, I noticed an immediate increase in headroom and volume. Of course it has two speakers instead of just the one Jensen inside the amp, but I did like the fact that it stayed cleaner longer and I could get the tubes to start to break up a little, giving the tone a little extra girth and width. So, I'm now playing with the idea of trying another speaker.

That's because the normal channel has no bright cap.

Reserve your amp's vibrato channel for any guitar with humbuckers -- those pickups usually need a little "kick" at the high end.

Huh? Disconnect the speaker, remove the 4 screws from the baffle, push and there is the speaker. Change it and reverse. You don't have to pull the chassis.

I installed a CR in the drri and sweet sounding tones, treble at
8 or 9 increased the highs just right, I recently took it out and
placed in the Bjr nos because the speaker casing was touching
One of the transformers and causing a severe rattle, boredom
gave me good reason to move speakers around.
Wow, awesome awesome tone. Now thinking hmm, I'll keep
this here, and order the Weber 12f150.
Hmmm
