I just replaced the Jenen C12K speaker with a Eminence Cannibis Rex 12" 50 watt in my DRRI. What a differance. This speaker sound great & handles Overdrive petals MUCH Better. The buzzy-fizzy sounds with the jensen are gone when using Od petals at lower volumes (under4). Ice pick highs are also reduced, but you can restore them with a turn of the trebble dial, if needed. I wish I tried this speaker earlier. It should of been my first mod & then the tube upgrade. They both will improve the sound while, preserving a warm classic tone. A Great speaker for the DRRI & as well as the Blus Jr.,
Thanks to billmaudio.com for the recomendation..a very informative site.

This is just too weird.

I just ordered the CR for my DRRI less than 10 minutes ago.

I never quite understood FMIC's motivation for installing the 100-watt C12K into a 22-watt amp.

:?

Arjay, not to HJ the thread, too much. But, what's your view on the UK made (or assembled) Celestion speakers versus those 100% made and assembled in China? Kinda a big debate on them, in cab Forums.

Thanks!

Curious...

What made you folks pick this speaker over say the WEBER 12F150?

The speaker replacement was first intended for my blues jr.nos.... after reading quite of few reviews on many forums including the detailed speaker assements on billmaudio many Drri owners liked the CR as well . I also concluded The weber was more harsher sounding.& i was trying to get away from that icepick in the jensen c12n in my blues jr. Nos...also the CR was the #1 speaker upgrade from many happy bl.jr.owners. It arrived but it never made it to the bjr.. i just had to test it in the drri..and it rocked.

I've replacement several (like 5) DRRI with alnico Webers (12A125 or 150)--- add a tad of doping and no way are they harsh. AFTER BREAK-IN.

My SR is loaded with Weber 10A125 speakers. And it just OOZES Blues. IMHO... at least.

Thanks BMW2002Ti.

I was thinking the 12F150 with light dope for the DRRI.

From Weber Speaker site:

" If the speaker you are sending has the surround doped, do you want it doped when it is reconed? Doping reduces the character and texture of a speaker and increases the break in time on most speakers, but reduces the chances of cone cry and ghost notes. Doping also extends the life of a speaker. "

Doping is applied to the surround. Or the corrugated edge of the speaker that attaches the cone to the frame. This is kinda like the suspension of the speaker. So doping changes the cone's response. Kinda like different shocks & springs changes a car's suspension.

The principle is quite similar actually.

Take the tubes out. Pull the speaker and reverb/tremolo plugs. Undo the power cord hold down. Now, unscrew the four screws that hold down the top two straps on the cabinet. There are nuts on the chassis side. Grab them as the strap screws are unloosen.

Now, gently pull the chassis out of the cab from the rear. This should do the trick.
