If you are not able to get service at a local Fender Service Center, you may arrange to return the instrument to our warehouse for warranty service. Call us at 1-866-498-7882 or email our tech support staff to set up the return and get a Return Authorization number. Please note that you will be responsible for shipping to get the item to our warehouse, but Fender will cover shipping to get the item back to you.

This time, ask for someone at GC that knows WTF they are doing.

“may also be authorized for warranty service center”
They are not.

“should be the first point of contact when service is required.”
He did.

The irony of your assinine comment aside, the dealer determined the amp needed to be serviced by a suitable technician, but I am sure you had a point there somewhere.

Just what this forum needs......ANOTHER FREAKIN' WEISENHEIMER.

We're trying to help this gentleman get his amp repaired.

Just what are you trying to do?

"Defective products that qualify for coverage under this warranty will be repaired or replaced, (at Fender's discretion) with a like or comparable product, without charge. To receive warranty service, return the complete product to an Authorized Fender Electronics Service Center, with proof of purchase, during the applicable warranty period. The Fender Dealer from whom you purchased your product may also be authorized for warranty service and should be the first point of contact when service is required. TRANSPORTATION COSTS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LIMITED WARRANTY."

Well we all know now that GC is NOT an authorized Fender Electronics Service Center. And they will not pay the transportation charges or even handle it for you and bill you for the charges.

I have scheduled a business trip to Birmingham and will take it there myself, hopefullly they can turnaround in a day and a half and I can take back else they'll have to ship it back to me and I'll have to pay for shipping.

You pay to ship to GC if it's under warranty and Fender will pay to ship it back to you.

Oh sorry man, I'll type slower this time.

As Retroverbial pointed out, we are trying to help the OP. My point is that GC should have referred him to an authorized repair center, as there should be a warranty if the amp was purchased new. Instead, they referred him to another place for which he would have to pay for the repairs. Not cool in my book, and I also hold GC employees to a higher standard, I deal with them a lot.

In case it's not obvious, GC has an obligation to help customers that spend their hard earned bucks there.

BTW, I recently had to send a new amp in for repair that I bought at GC (not a Fender amp). And since I am a good customer and the GCs here are terrific, GC actually packed and shipped my amp back to the authorized service center for me, and I only paid shipping to the center. I am pretty sure that they enjoy the repeat business of happy customers.

I am no fan of big box stores, but GC is in no way "obligated" to take care of a warranty issue a year after purchase. The OP stated GC tried to rectify the issue and came to the conclusion it would need to be serviced by a technician.

No I did not state they tried to rectify the issue. I told them I had changed the reverb driver tube and he shrugged and said "well that's all we would do". Then he ask if I knew a local guy and gave me his card and I said no I don't know him and he said you could take it to him he does our amp work" of course I asked he he was authorized for warranty work and he said no and I mentioned well that would void the remain 4 years on my warranty and he shrugged and said "yeah I guess so". I asked him wouldn't they take care of getting to a Fender for service and he no and wrote down a phone number which ended up being their Dealer customer service.

In the meantime I spoke with the service center in Birmingham and they said that if it involved a part they had and didn't have to get shipped in they would get me in on a priority basis so hopefully I'll be able to pick up Friday morning on my way home.

I am more surprised GC doesn't have a better service and repair system and more reason to buy online if the local store can't help me out a little better and I'm going have to deal with the mfg'r directly anyway.

"Did you expect a GC floor associate to whip out a soldering iron from his back pocket and do the repair on the spot? "

I usually don't respond to snarky post but no that is not what I expected. What I expected was some customer service and correct advice on how to proceed from the getgo. Certainly not the first recommendation being to take it to an unauthorized person for service voiding the remaining four years of the warranty and not even mentioning it. And yes, being a very good customer of theirs, maybe at the least printing out a list of the nearest service centers and perhaps even offering to ship it even at my cost.

I had a Peavy amp that went out on my and I took it back to the store I bought it at, it wasn't even under warranty, they check a few things internally and then recommended it be sent back to Peavy and they gladly took care of it for me and called me when it got back.

So being in sales for over 30 years myself I expect some customer service, but that's just me I guess.
