Only about a year old. When I turn on after about 20-30 seconds a high pitch getting higher tone then the reverb cuts on. Removed the reverb tube and it doesn't happen so guessing it is the tube. Can you run a 12AT in the reverb slot? It came with a 12AU.

Also after about 30-40 seconds there is a loud POP. Just one, that's it. Other than that it plays and sound great.

Any ideas?

The DRRI schematics list a 12AT7 for the reverb driver, but a 12AU7 would be an acceptable replacement with less gain than the 12AT7. Whichever of the two sounds best to you is the right one. It seems that you are correct, probably a microphonic 12AU7. Generally, you shouldn't use a 12AX7 in a position requiring a 12AT7, such as the reverb driver position.

Did you still have the "pop" with the reverb driver removed?

Check also RCA and shielded wires of the reverb.

:)

Had a 12DW I slipped in which is a low gain and no high pitched tone when it warms up. Yeah the pop was there with or without the reverb driver tube in. After about a minute it seems. One pop.

Stinger, You do NOT want to use a 12DW7. This tube has two completely different triode sections. One has a mu= 100. The other mu = 20. Some cheaper amps use this tube as a PI/gain stage, all-in-one tube.

If anything use a 12AT7 or 12AV7 or something that has similar gain on both halves.

Already have a new 12AT7 on the way. The DW was the only non-suspect tube I had. It does work, and no squeal as it heats up, but took it out and waiting for the proper tube.

Just a possibility, but the pop could be from a poor solder joint, or even a bad connecting cable. I would have a close look at the solder joints and connections to the circuit boards. Another thought is a poor connection in a tube socket, output or preamp, or even another bad tube. It would be easy enough to substitute a known-good tube into each spot to eliminate the possibility of a tube problem. One good 12AT7 and one good 12AX7 can be used to try out in each position one by one. As much trouble as it is, when inspecting amps, I almost always pull the main circuit board to be able to closely inspect all solder joints, as it is quite a common problem with many newer amps, especially ones built after 2005 (think RoHS....DOH!).

OK got the new reverb tube in and not squeal during warm up. I do note it takes a while before the reverb kicks in and still getting the pop. Maybe time to take it back to GC as it is under warranty and have them check it out.

Well GC was of no help. All they could do was swap tubes which I have already done. They recommended a local guy but he is not a Fender authorized service tech. The closest is about 200 miles away in Birmingham AL. It is playing OK just have to wait about 1:45 minutes, then a pop and then the reverb kicks in.

Concern or just live with it?

I certainly wouldn't "live with it". GC, as an authorized Fender dealer, is obligated to remand that amp to a certified FMIC service center for warranty repair. Take it back to the store and insist that they do so.

Don't let them off the hook.

Assuming that you bought it new...

"...The Fender Dealer from whom you purchased your product may also be authorized for warranty service and should be the first point of contact when service is required...."

This time, ask for someone at GC that knows WTF they are doing.
