Just wondering if anyone has one? I know it can get dirty just wondering how clean is it considering it would have limited headroom. And do you like it?

Do a search. There are a couple of threads here by people that own them.

It's a lot of cash for a practice amp one trick pony. I'd just build a clone.

I tried one tonight. With a Les Paul. There isn't much in the way of clean headroom--though enough for the bedroom for sure.

But the OD tones. Wow. Breaks up like a champ (no pun intended.)

The clones will do the same thing. The circuit is the circuit. Supposedly Clapton had a couple of tweaks done to it, I haven't seen the schematic to compare them . No you won't get much headroom especially wit an LP. Still ain't worth a grand to me.

They are very expensive that is true. Though I haven't tried all of them, there are many low watt tube amps out now--Vox AC4, Marshall Class 5, Blackstar HT-5R. Fender Champion 600, Bugera V5. etc--that can be had for much less money. But the EC Champ sure sounded good.

Just a suggestion... but if you just want a good practice amp & can work with simple single-ended circuitry --- a Bronco amp is a good choice. Replacement cap cans and speakers are available. And the schematic and layout are also available on the Net.

I love mine. I play it more often than the bigger 6L6GC Fenders I have. These are quite reliable, once 'lytic caps, tubes, other components are brought up to specs.

That's right. They are hellishly expensive. How does a Pro Jr. compare? Who clones the tweed amp?

Lots of folks clone the Tweed and there are a few build threads on the subject as well.
Do a search on "tweed build" and you should find a few.
Via GOOGLE, do a search on "tweed kits" and you'll find other pointers.

+1 I have a 74 Champ and it's awesome. If I want a little more oomph, I run it through my two Egnater 112 closed back cabs and use a Weber Z Matcher to match the impedance.

A few more low wattage amp are the VHT Special 6 and Egnater is coming out with Detroit 5.
The VHT is hand wired.

Yeah 950 bucks is an awful lot to shell out for a 5 watt amp....then again, the Dr Z and Black Cat low wattage amps are EVEN MORE expensive...it gets down to build quality tho...and I am betting if you buy an EC amp it will sound better in 40 years with very little maintenance than it does when you bought it new. I saw the little video on the construction of the amp and was suitably impressed and they DO sound nice. 950 bucks nice....? It's all a matter of perspective and how much money you have to throw away on what amounts to a labor of love for most of us these days. For what it's worth, I bought a Blackstar HT-5R (the combo) for home recording and practice (the HRDLX was TOO LOUD for anything beyond band practice and performance) and I LOVE the crap out of it! It has an awesome OD channel that sounds good for ANY style depending on how you set it and a very nice reverb as well....it only cost 450 bucks.

I played one several months ago when one of our guys got one in a trade.

Sounds great pushed, not sure why you need it to be clean...

It definitely sounds way better than any BF/SF Champ, Vibrochamp or Bronco I've heard, and he brought in his 65 Champ. The tremolo on it is thick and delicious.

Supro, yes you could possibly build a clone if you were so inclined. But out of the box, this amp does sound good. Not sure if it's $950 good, but certainly $700+.
