Hi,

I've got a Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 amp. Love it. Had it for a few years and revalved it about a year ago. It sounds lovely. In my practice room I don't have any issues.

I did a gig at the weekend and experienced some serious issues. As soon as my guitar was plugged in and the overdrive channel was selected, there was a horrible buzzing coming from the amp. I did a number of checks and couldn't find the issue. I tried,

Using a different guitar,
Removing the effects loop,
Trying different wall sockets,
Standing in different parts of the room
Using different pickups
Switching off other electric appliances around

In the end I had to put it down to the electrics in the building. My other guitarist has the same amp and he was getting the same noise from his, but not as noticeable. I put that down to the interference at his end of the stage mustn't have been as bad.

Is there anything I can buy to protect against this kind of interference in the future? I've heard about power breakers, power conditioners but not sure what I need. In the end, I had to play through the clean channel which was the only way I could stop the buzzing. The buzzing was only there when the volume switch on the guitar was open. It was hideous.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Perhaps have the AC voltage checked on those suspect outlets. If they are far below or above 120VAC, no conditioner will help.

After following BMW's suggestion, if everything checks out Ok, you might want to start out with something cheap and simple like this:

Thanks, that's good advice. We all thought that it sounded like it was an earthing problem in the electrics so that Hum X seems ideal. I run a 240V socket though as I'm in the UK. I'm sure they'll have something similar over here though.

Thanks again.
