Can I run an 8ohms external speaker with my champion 600 (2009 model) without frying the amp? I'm not concerned about sound quality or reduced wattage. I just need to test the external cab. It's a peavey 112e with a 8ohms speaker. Thank you. I need a clear accurate answer please.

I've been running my 5F1 configured Champion 600 (with stock output transformer) with an external cab housing a 12", 8-ohm Celestion speaker for several months now with no problems. It sounds great.

Is that clear and accurate enough for you?

The cab has a celestion G12 8ohms modern lead 70. Is this in your opinion considered a decent speaker . Playing long time but this is my first ext cab. Bought used. Thanks for the replies !

Stare into the image and repeat; "The cabinet sounds great, the cabinet sounds great."

I think that this might be the same method that is used to convince amp owners that their amp doesn't sound good without modifying. I thought that I would use it for good instead of evil for a change.

Just checked. The speaker in my cab (Raven) is a Celestion G12P-80, 8 ohms.

If you read my thread that shimmilou graciously linked to, you'll read about everything I have done to my C600.

An odd champ story.. I had a 78 champ that I got with my American strat for a total package price of a whopping 300 bucks. The day after John Lennon got shot I was asked by my teacher at school to bring my guitar and amp in and play. The champ blew up...started smoking and caught on fire...it was salvageable but at that emotional time and lack of knowledge on how to fox it. I tossed it somewhere in the trash... I wonder if someone rescued it and if it's somewhere being used?? Finally got the newer version of the champ decades later and I'm really happy with it..

Bill,
Thanks for all your help. Yeah the Peavey 112E with the champ 600 sounds dreamy. The breakup is now at about 8 1/2 or 9. 10 sounds great! Im not hearing muffled sounds because of the 112e's grill allows breathing. The great news is that the sound is it still like the champs sound but a bit bigger and open. I had a bit o trouble removing the back plate of the champ but once I tugged on it...no problem. I have never changed a tube ever so right now I'm a bit hesitant to mod. It's hard to get good help like you gave me about all this so once again thank you!! I hope if i ever get to wanting some mods etc you'll be around for some pointers! -thanks again- jon

The amp is super easy to work on. All parts are labeled on the circuit board and you don't have to remove tthe circuit board to do any of the mods I did.
