FWIW, the last DRRI I redid-- I put RCA gray glass 6V6GT in them and ran them at about 9-10 watts idle dissipation per tube. The older NOS 6V6GT and 6V6GTY can take this and sound a lot creamier and Blusier than biased to cold AB1.

Mated with the Weber Vintage alnico 12A125... pretty cool tones.

The mil spec brown micanol based 6V6GTY are really great tubes. Uprated from standard 6V6GT of their day. They last forever. Also, the Brimar CV511 & the French Visseaux and Mazdas are great tubes, too.

I've always shied away from Ebay buys. Not fully trusting what I'm about to buy but it seems like you have good luck with purchases? What do you look for in your purchases? Just the sellers rating or...

Not to hi-jack the thread but meaning to ask.

After thinking about it, I took yalls advise and ordered the right probe.

Amp should be here tomorrow.

Thanks.

I'm smart enough, to know I'm a dumbbutt, so I better listen to those who know what I don't.

You guys have been a lot of help and I appreciate it. And it's fun to share with yall, my joy of getting something I have wanted for about 47 years. Yea, I know it's the re-issue and not the original, but It's still a Fender Deluxe Reverb. :P

We all learn by watching others. This forum is a great resource and luckily, we have a very generous set of members who give up their knowledge.

And there's nothing wrong with a DRRI ! Many folks including myself have one and have fun with them. As you will find out real soon!

Another very common mod is swapping the speaker. Interestingly enough....many have come back to the original speaker...having given it some break-in time. Pick-up a filament transformer online ie: Allied P/N 6k94hf. Hook her up and let the speaker buzz for 24 hrs. There should be a noticable smoothing of tone. Also, locate a couple of new production Tung Sol 12ax7's and play around with them in the V1 & V2 positions.

I'm taking the tubes that I upgraded out of my Valveking and I have some Tung-Sol 12AX7s. Now looking at Tom's link below, they suggest Sovtek 12AX7LPS in V1 and V2. I have those also. Any suggestions on either? Of course you guys are going to say try them and see what I like.

As far as power tubes go, I have a pair of Tung-Sol 6L6GC STR that are marked with "19" on the box. Should I try these and if I do, I should wait until I get my biasing probe?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

First impression is, is that's much warmer than my Valveking. Not sure I like that, but then again, I have only been playing with it for half an hour and so far, I don't like the pedals.

Ok,my first impression isn't all that great. It's not as clear and bright as I hoped, so I'm going to change out some tubes. Where is V1 and 2?

Thanks.

Have you re-biased the power tubes as instructed at the very beginning of this thread?

No. My biasing probe is not here yet.

Found this.

(Seen from behind, V1 is to the right side)
