Hi and thanks in advance. I have this amp on the way and because I'm stupid and never leave anything stock, I'd like to know what upgrades I could do short of digging out the soldering iron.

Speaker, tubes?

I play mostly clean country, blues, classic rock and my guitar is a Godin Velocity with HSS pups.

Start by having the power tubes properly biased. The factory setting is far too cold for the amp to develop it's full sonic potential.

Thanks Arjay.

At this point, I haven't done enough research to know if this amp has a biasing pot or not let alone what to do. Is there a link that can lead me in the right direction without being annoying and bothersome? lol.

Thanks.

After reading, scroll down to "#3. Fender Deluxe Bias" for the Deluxe Reverb bias video.

Another very common mod is swapping the speaker. Interestingly enough....many have come back to the original speaker...having given it some break-in time. Pick-up a filament transformer online ie: Allied P/N 6k94hf. Hook her up and let the speaker buzz for 24 hrs. There should be a noticable smoothing of tone. Also, locate a couple of new production Tung Sol 12ax7's and play around with them in the V1 & V2 positions.

Mullard CV4024 for the Phase Inverter preamp tube. Best $30 non-invasive upgrade to Fender amps IMHO.

Haven't tried them in a reissue, but in my Princetons I'm a fan of the NOS Mazda 6V6 power tubes - they sound great.

I get my tubes from Mike Kropotkin @ kcanostubes.com - he's super helpful and carries NOS and new glass.

Curious what improvement does that make? I'm familiar with how replacing the V1 preamp tube can affect the sound, but not the phase inverter.

Oh and on the subject of preamp tubes, Phillips JAN 12AX7WA's are jaw dropping.

I have the Mullard in V6. I find it gives a smoother tone, don't ask me how! The recommendation came from this nice guide - which, like so much good stuff, I owe to this forum:

Sorry to butt in, BUT the Mullard CV4024 is noted 12AT7 type for having good balance across the duo-triode sections. The tube is originally designed for balanced use in military applications. Another good 12AT7 is the Sylvania 12AT7WA. Esp the triple mica variety.

On the tube biasing, where can I get one those testers, or is something I can build myself with the help of a EE at work?

On older Fender amps, the Phase Inverter is one of the key preamp tubes and benefits dramatically from a quality NOS tube. Mike K recommended the Mullard and it has been the PI tube for me.

You can build your own with a precision 1 ohm resistor, socket, and cable, using your own multimeter to measure DC mV drop across the resistor. The connection in the socket for the tube Cathode is broken and the resistor inserted in series with the Cathode. In the case of a 1 ohm resistor, mV can be directly translated to mA, and read with a DC volt meter.

There are probes on the EuroTubes site that you can buy.
http://www.eurotubes.com/eurotubes-Bias-Probe-Pro-One-current-watts-voltage.htm

The MQ10 from A#Fretworks is the one that I use.
http://www.asharpfretworks.com/5543.html

You can easily measure the Plate volts directly from the amp with a volt meter if you are careful, or you can get the probes that allow Plate voltage measurement through the socket adapter, options for either of the probe sets mentioned above.
