Haven't seen the video. Usually I base my opinions on my own experience when I try new stuff, mostly because recording techniques are usually kind of rough on youtube, plus the whole speaker/headphone thing throws a wrench into the work, but a V30 IMO would be a nice improvement. My whole point is, when you try an amp, try it with your #1 guitar and put the amp through its paces. Don't sit quietly noodling. Crank the thing, and do some serious testing. What I do after that is go home and come back again. Loud is not always good. My HRDlx was loud, but sounded like arse when cranked. My Rebel 20 is pretty loud, but retains it tone up the volume dial. My HRDlx at 40 watts couldn't cut a mix.

Don't be swayed by my opinion at all. It's what suits your needs that really counts in the end. I bailed on new Fender amps after my HRDlx experience. Though the Excelsior could be interesting. I tried one this afternoon at Sam Ash. I think it could seriously benefit from a different speaker. Still interesting. If they have a sale, I might give it a second look.
I still might build a Tube Depot 5E3 kit because it may be more useful to me.

For my own needs a bunch of mediocre "extra features" would be useless to me. If I want a bunch of gain and sustain, I'd go Mesa, Bogner or Marshall.

Yes, many Youtube videos are rough, but these two are professionally done by Pro Guitar Shop. This custom SS22 was made exclusively for their distribution according to the video. If you have several minutes, give it a listen.

Unfortunately for me, I live 150+ miles one way from any major music store that carries the higher end amps. So I try to get a fair idea from demos, then take a chance by purchasing on-line with a no-questions-asked 45 day return policy. Not ideal, but best for me.

I listen to and try to respect all opinions here and elsewhere and in the end form my own. Some amp features are important to me (short of modeling amps..which I tried, a Peavey Vypyr, and have now sold it because it was too many bells and whistles). The SS22 suits me well without having to use pedals and fumble (which I do proficiently  ) with guitar knobs when change is needed quickly.

Anyway, thanks for the input.

Yes thanks. I had actually seen that before. For me however I like the idea of the lower power/lower output. I've got a really good band situation and everyone is pretty mature about adult stage levels. Many amps much over 20w are hard to tame. If anything the ss22 seemed louder than the DRRI.

Hey guys, let me throw you another curve ball. Besides the ss22 and DRRI, I'm considering a Princeton RI!!

The Princeton depending on your situation is kind of on the edge for gigging. I had one in the late 60's and like a dumbass I sold it. Great sounding amps, but unless you're playing with a really professional drummer, you'll either have to mic it or run an extension cab with a really efficient speaker, sometimes both. Your headroom will be pretty limited. I don't play sparkly clean but I lose too much in the dynamics dept so I lose control of my tone, but for me 20 watts is my minimum for gigging. On a side note, I sometimes rehearse with my 74 6 watt Champ through a Weber Z matcher and a 16 ohm 112 cab, the Z Matcher fixes the impedance mismatch, but I play with professional musicians who care more about the mix than their egos.

+1.

I've gigged with my Princeton Reverb with a closed 1x12 extension cab, and unless you've got a great PA with good monitors, it usually isn't loud enough. Heck, we did a show this year where I brought my 5 watt Dr. Z and my Showman 2x12 cab -- but we had a JBL VRX PA and each bandmember had a 12" powered monitor with their own mix in front of them. Otherwise, you may hear the amp right behind you, but no one else in the band will hear it, which is bad.

For gigs without all that PA and monitor support indoors, I bring the Bandmaster; for outdoor shows I bring the Showman.

I have a very nice Sound system. QSC/EV powered mains, everyone has a powered monitor and their own mix via Presonus digital mixer. Best situation I've ever had. We are even considering going to in-ear monitors, probably for me to start so that is a big reason I'm considering the Princeton. Try to keep the stage volume down as much as possible. We'll see.
