Hi all

I am changing my combo twin speaker configuration from 8ohms series (giving 16ohms switch selected) to 8ohms parrellel (giving 4ohms switch selected). The problem I am having is that I cannot find the correct size lugs for the Celestion Vintage 30 speakers to make up some new parrellel connections. Does anyone know where to get the correct fitting lugs. Or should I rather solder the wires?

home Depot will have them in electrical under Fastons (the brand name).

Crimp, then solder.

There's no arguing that crimp and solder is "better", but I've never had anything but crimped connections and never had a problem. If you are a "tinkerer" and prone to swap out speakers, it can be more of a nusiance if the connection is both. If there is little to no chance you'll swap speakers, both wouldn't hurt anything.

Yeah, I won't be changing speakers any time in the far future, so maybe I should do a good solder job instead of lugs for a reliable connection, as where I live here in South Africa we don't have "Home Depot", and our hardware stores don't keep the exact size, ours is about 0.2mm wider Lugs which fit a little too loose for my liking.

+1

That's the way Leo did it......good enough for "Saint Fender", good enough for me.

I make an exception for JBL's since they use a spring-loaded terminal -- for those speakers I merely tin the leads to keep the copper strands from fraying.
