Nothing sounds like NOS RCA or Mullard or Sylvania or GE or...........

Yes, you're right. And for a standard OEM, it could be Electro Harmonix. You just can't put NOS into each and every amp you sell, can you?

Cheers

It seems that the rough handling of amps during shipping (putting it mildly), is a major factor in tube problems with new amps. UPS is horrible in this respect. The amps can be well packaged, but the installed tubes still suffer the inertia of the bumps and tumbles. I rarely have any problems with shipments of tubes by themselves, but the same tubes that come already installed in a new amp can fail very soon after delivery. One friend that works in a major store, removes the amp's tubes, packages them separately before shipping, and has great results preventing tube damage. I wish more people did this, but I guess that most people who use amps couldn't figure out how to install tubes.

Since all modern tubes come from a relatively small number of manufacturers, the best ones are going to be the ones that are thoroughly tested and relabeled, such as GT, MB, and others. In my experience, GT are some of the most reliable modern tubes, but they still suffer the mistreatment by the shipping ruffians.

Note the increasing number of shops that refuse to use UPS. For good reason.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.
