I want to buy an DRRI used but not sure how check the amp for things that are possible broken or in need of repair.

What are some things I should check for? What would be a good used price?

Hi fenderchiq,

Pleasant sound on both channels is probably the best indication. Looks like $600 to $700 is the going rate for a good, used DRRI.

+1,
Also check for reverb fx and tremolo, check for scratchy pots
Volume @5 should be too loud for you in front of it.
when playing it listen for any snap crackle and pop,
that only belongs in cereal,
Tube rattles micro phonic tubes can be sorted out, but that
can help negotiate a Lower price.

The first thing I do is examine the amp's rear panel.

If it doesn't have the dummy "ground" switch and an "LO" prefixed serial number, I pass it on by. The re-issues made in Lake Oswego were all assembled with conventional solder (no RoHS crap!) and are less prone to solder-joint failures.

But that's just me......and I'm a little picky when it comes to reliability.

Plug in the guitar turn it on, turn the volume up ready to
Play, turn the knobs, you should hear staticy sounds coming
from the amp, those are scratchy pots

No, it would have a similar toggle switch but have the word "Ground" labeled for it.

This is the real panel of an LO-serialled DRRI......

The phony ground switch is on the left, adjacent to the fuse post. This particular chassis is one of the first to be built (1993). In nineteen years of prolonged-and-regular professional use it has never experienced a failure or a malfunction of any kind.
