Like the look and sounds of the new Excelsior ( not yet available here in Australia - always last on shipping list!)

The Excelsior has a SS Rectifier, 15 inch spkr, Tremolo, and my 5E3 ( Marsh repro 57 Tweed Deluxe) has a tube recifier and 12 inch spkr .

Both have 2x12AX7's and 2x6V6's.

Can anybody tell me what are the real differences re sond/tone, or are they similar?

Although I have not seen a schematic for the Excelsior, I would be willing to bet the farm that the circuit design of the Excelsior bears absolutely no resemblence to a 5E3 Deluxe and therefore will not sound even remotely similar to a 5E3. Based on what I have heard in on-line demos, if I had a choice between the two and money was not a concern, the Excelsior would be my third choice.

bluesky636

and what are your 1st and 2nd choices?

I have a boogie mk11c+(60 watt no eq or reverb) - LOUD
concert 11 head (Rivera model - 60 watts) - Loud thru 80's Marshall 4 x10
laney lcr 15 ( 15 watts)
2 x epi valve jrs ( 5 watts) thru epi V Jr 1x12 ( Eminence Cannabis Rex)
mustang 1 ( 20 watts solid state)
Marsh 57 tweed deluxe clone ( 12 watts) - LOUD

am still interested in the Excelsior if they ever get to Australia, especially at a reasonable price.

GAS is GREAT.

I own a Weber 5F6A clone kit that I built myself:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=65668

A Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue that a search on my name and BDRI will find a lot of information that I have posted on tube selection, power tube biasing, and speaker choices,

A Fender Champion 600 that I have heavily modified:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=63259

and a Fender Frontman 25R with a Eminence Ragin Cajun speaker.

I am considering building a Weber 5E3 Deluxe clone later this year.
