Tone-wise, does it make sense to own both a DRRI and a Blues Jr? I've got one of the limited edition DRRI's with the Jensen P-12Q and I'm very satisfied with it. But, I've been looking at the FSR "After the Gold Rush" Blues Jr. which is equipped with a Celestion Greenback speaker...

One feature of the Blues Jr. that I kinda like is having the ability to adjust the master and volume controls so that it breaks up at lower volume. (I don't gig -- just play here at home.)

So, do the differences (6V6's vs. EL84's, Jensen P-12Q vs. Celestion Greenback, etc.) in the two amps justify having both? An alternative would be to use an extension cabinet (with a Celestion Greenback or maybe Cannabis Rex) and an overdrive pedal with the DRRI..

GAS is a terrible affliction...

I had a Blues Jr for ten years, then bought a BDRI. A friend had just bought a Hot Rod Deluxe and I liked the way you could really dial the tone in with the tone stack and presence control. So I went to the place he bought his amp, they didn't have another Hot Dod Deluxe, but had the Blues Deluxe Reissue. I liked the tolex type cover better, and figured out I would never use the more drive channel on the Hot Rod anyway.

I like the sound of the 6L6s; but both amps are good in their own way. Good tone is what sounds good to you. If you can afford it, just keep both amps. As far "making sense", in my case need went out of the discussion a long time ago. I love guitars and amps.

I was curious about modding the amp without spending a bunch of money, so based on internet recommendations, I had the speaker replaced with an Eminence Cannabis Rex and on recommendation from an amp tech, replaced the V1 AX7 with a Electro Harmonix AY7. These changes did effect the sound and I like it, but again, it comes down to what sounds good to you. For all I know, the people who recommended the speaker swap could all work for Eminence!

Likely not. But there are unscrupulous people with parochial interests who will attempt to persuade. Keep that in mind when considering any recommendation.

I'd just throw an OD pedal in front of the DRRI and forget about the Blues JR

That'd be my inclination as well.

I think you'll be happy with that option. Worked for me.

LMAO

The supply of choice vintage goodies seems to be drying up, Bill.

I haven't found anything decent to buy this year.

Would it be Fender 's equivalent of Vox AC -15?

It's certainly closer to the Vox platform than anything Leo ever designed.

Yeah, that would be nice.... The advertising for the FSR Gold Rush Blues Jr specifically mentions the British sound. I wonder how different it would sound compared to the AC -15...
