Shimmy, very cool Filmsound amp. Was it out of a Bell & Howell professional projector? The iron used in those things is worth the effort of restoration.

A lot of those have been surfacing lately on Ebay.

Yes, B&H model 179, amp part number 14027.

Look at those projector amps very carefully, check the amp part number or serial number, or good pictures, as many are the "transformer-less" type, no power trans. The one that I posted above is similar to a 5E3 as far as the circuit, and only a little modification required to use with guitar. It came with Sylvania tubes, and all tubes still worked, but the output tubes were quite unmatched. The amp pictured above came in the original projector, with matching speaker cab, for $100, great deal. A couple hundred more dollars later and it sounds killer, very quiet, sounds like an old 5E3 Deluxe. :D It's amazing, considering that the chassis is the size of a carton of smokes.

The one in the link on eBay looks like a model 385 (desireable), but the pictures aren't there so I don't see the model number. But, I can see the power trans, so that would be a good one, although pricey.

I recently bought a projector model 185 for $85, and I didn't check it closely until after I bought it and removed the amp from the projector. It was a transformer-less amp, not quite what I wanted. Some of the model 185 have a power trans. Mine came with all RCA tubes, and one Raytheon tube. The tubes were even shot, big disappointment. :(

Here is a pic of the inside of the 179 if anyone's interested.

That thing is really compact; it has a lot of components in a small area.
