I just bought a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue and have a footswitch question. I would like to use just a single button channel footswitch (instead of the two-button channel/reverb switch that comes with the amp). This is so I can simplify my setup and not accidentally hit the 'reverb' button during a live gig. If I buy an standard single button 'channel' footswitch from Fender will that work? I am concerned because I tried a regular footswitch (from another amp I had) and when I plug it in, the reverb shuts off and is inoperable. I am concerned that if I buy the fender one-button 'channel' footswitch, the reverb will shutoff as well. Any thoughts on this from the amp gurus out there? Thanks in advance.

It is not possible due to the fact that the design uses 1 wire with sinewave to discriminate with diodes reverb and "channel".
The mod is de-solder the ad-hoc diode within the footswich. The mod is reversible.

Hi dwoodward64,

Tis-san is right, a regular single-button switch will not work (the ones with no LED). However, this specific switch will work for channel switching only, and the reverb will not be affected. Fender part # 028890. And if I'm not mistaken, this very switch was included with the original Blues Deluxe (BDlx) not the reissues (BDRI), and was only for channel switching.

As Tis-san suggested, disconnecting one wire from the existing foot-switch reverb button and taping off the wire would be the cheapest solution.

I used to have the same problem of inadvertantly hitting the reverb button when I only wanted to hit the drive channel. So, I cut a small section of copper pipe and made a "cap" for the reverb button, taped it in place, and voila...no more tap dancing

Thank you very much for your replies. This is incredibly helpful information. I have one question:

Which is the ad-hoc diode that should be cut?

There are two in the footswitch: CR1 and CR2.

CR2 appears to be the reverb diode.

Thank You!

According to this schematic:
http://support.fender.com/schematics/gu ... _Rev-A.pdf
There is no indication !
Consider reverb circuit from the switch, find the led and diode, according to you CR2. De-solder the Kathode of the diode (not the led) and connect the kathode to the ground. This will avoid EMI susceptibility.

Please forgive my stupidity, but why would you alter the circuit which is more dificult to do and again to restore if desired, rather than tape a "cap" over the reverb button?

For the record, this particular footswitch will not work with my Blues Deluxe Reissue (made in mexico model). It probably works fine with a standard 'made in USA' Blues Deluxe, but not the reissue. When I tried using it with the reissue, the reverb was still shut off and inoperable. I do appreciate the suggestion though, thanks.

I suppose that there are no diodes to discriminate Channel and Reverb in then the footswitch swithes both at the same time.
