Hi friends!

I'm used to tube amps and have little experience with digital modelling amps, except for an old Line6 Spider I had for a while.

Just got myself a first generation Fender Cyber Twin, a modelling amp I was after for years!
I got it used for a fairly low price.

It worked perfectly well until about a week or two ago.
Now, if I turn the big selector wheel to choose a factory preset or a stored preset of mine, the amp "jumps" to a completely other preset, like for example I'm on preset 40 and want to go to 41, the display "jumps" to any other preset like for example 85!

I have to turn the wheel REALLY slowly and carefully to jump just one or two settings forward/backwards.

Since it's all digital, I assume either a contact problem (wheel) or an electronic failure (platine?).

Does anybody have experience with this problem? Is there a way to solve the problem myself (like contact spray or something) or is it a job for an amp professional/service center??

It's really annoying. Turn it slightly too fast and you're lost somewhere in the presets instead hitting the one you want!
When I got it, one detent (you can feel them when turning the wheel) meant one step forward in the presets. A quick dial of about 4 or 5 detents and you were 4 or 5 steps forward in the preset list. The latter doesn't work anymore. The first works only if done very slow and carefully.

It might very well be a loose connection, cable or solder joint, or it could use some spray cleaner, but try the search feature at the top of the page for "Cyber Twin" to see if this has already been covered. I seem to remember this subject before.

Searched and found, thank you!
Not much of information there. Looks like I either gotta live with it or take it to a service center.
Exchanging those parts is NOT for non-professionals!

I am having some work done with respect to a new enclosure fo my Cyber-twin, and I want to know how to drain the dangerous electricity stored up before I start taking out the chassis to put into a new enclosure, new tubes etc? Any guidance on this?

Hi reptoman,

Not really a concern with this amp, it has bleeder resistors to discharge the caps when the amp is turned off. The only time that you would need to drain the caps in other amps is when you would actually be working on the circuit, touching the components, and this is typical of most tube amps. When you remove your chassis, you don't grasp it by the components anyway. It's a good habit to get used to not touching the components/circuit board in any amp.
