hey there!

i want to run my bassman thru an attenuator to get the rude tone without doing any harm to anyone (not yet!). the bassman runs at 2 ohms and the 'load dump 50w attenuator' at 4, 8 or 16 ohms. i am aware that 4 or 8 ohms will have an effect on the output level and the tone itself, but will they actually do any harm to the bassman?

thanks in advance!

timo.

Don't know what your budget is, but this one handles 2 ohm loads. You should get the 100 watt attenuator.

Just like a speaker, an attenuator should be rated at least half again as much as the amp is rated (I would prefer twice as much) as now the attenuator is dissipating the power that the speakers used to, especially if the amp is cranked. That says the attenuator should be at least 60 watts and preferably more. Will a 50 watt attenuator work (the RI is rated at about 45 watts)? Maybe, if you don't play the amp cranked for a long time. Given your attenuator's power rating and impedance load, it would not be my first choice, but I am very conservative in this area.
