Here's a puzzle for those of you more electronically inclined than myself: A friend recently gave me his old Fender Deluxe 85. It works pretty well despite a few scratchy pots and a positional parallel jack, EXCEPT for one weird thing:

Channel two only works when the Mid-Boost button is engaged. If the Mid-Boost button is not engaged, no volume will come when playing channel two. If the Mid-Boost button is engaged, channel two sounds. The Boost button works with channel two, again as long as the Mid-Boost button is engaged.

There are no problems with channel one. The issue with channel two occurs regardless of which jack (switching or parallel) is used.

Does anyone have any idea where in the circuitry a problem might be with this odd problem/puzzle?

May be it is reasonable to visit a amp tech in order to repair properly.

Hi dboruta,

Tis-san might be right, the repair will probably involve dis-assembly and component replacement, or at least some soldering.

The schematic that I'm viewing isn't clear, but it looks like the mid boost switch shorts R12 in one position, and in the other position puts R12 in parallel with R13. It could be a faulty switch, or a broken solder connection around that circuit, or even a faulty resistor or cap.

Thanks guys. I might just live with some mid-boost for now. :) Not sure investing in the repair will be worth it at this point.
