Hi guys. I'm new here and need a little help.
I just bought a blues deville 4X10 from a guy that said it was only a couple years old. I just ordered 2 JJ6L6GC's that should be here in a few days.
My question is, do I need to bias? If so...can someone give me a link to a detailed tutorial or just explain how to do it? I have a multimeter. :)

Thanks in advance!
Rick

p.s. How can I find out what year the amp was built?

Hi RickCutlip,

Yes, check the bias when installing new output tubes.

The original BDvl did not have a bias adjust pot or test point, and you would have to change a resistor or add a bias adjust pot, and use a bias probe or other method to check current. If you have a reissue, there is a bias adjust pot and test point, and this video will show how to adjust. Read down to, and then select "#1. Fender Hot Rod Deville / Deluxe Bias" video.

Look for a sticker like the one below, inside the cabinet to determine the date of manufacture, and check the dating site for info.

If there is no inspection sticker, contact Fender with the serial number.

Note that you also need to measure the plate voltage as shown in the Eurotubes video to get a complete picture of your bias setup. The safest way to do that is with the purchase of a bias probe that allows you to use your DVM to safely measure both cathode current and plate voltage. I use this one with my Blues Deluxe Reissue and 5F6A Bassman clone:
