My suggestion is to go and try a bunch of different amps to find one that YOU like.

The previous post which suggested that you go try a number of amps to help you decide is the best advice you'll get. Guitar Center is a great place to do this, with good variety to choose from.

Other things for you to consider as you "test drive" amps:
1)You cannot compare wattage of solid state amps and tube amps. I have always used the rule of thumb that 'sound volume wise', there is a factor of 3 or 4. In other words, a 15 watt tube will have the approximate perceived volume of a 45 to 60 watt solid state amp. This is just a 'gut feel' of mine, but for sure it is greater!
2)Beside the style of music you prefer, where will you play and with whom? If you get with a group (even just jamming) and there is a drummer present, you need a larger amp. The Blues jr. is marginal in this type of environment unless it is mic'd. A large amp may prove to be too loud for the home environment, especially if in high density quarters unless there is a headphone jack (which normally cuts out the speaker(s). Perhaps you can keep the 15watt Marshall for home practice.
3)Size and weight are factors. Anything over 50 lbs. gets to be a 'pain in the back'
4)Will you be using effects pedals? If you like lots of effects, the tube amps don't provide variety themselves without using pedals; the solid state amps often do, without the use of pedals. These on-board effects are not as good as individual pedals, but many are useable. If your style calls for significant distortion (ie more than overdrive), the tone difference between tube and SS is far less noticable, if at all.
5)You will find out that tube amps cost more than SS amps for the same approx. volume, and if your style doesn't make use of the better (argueable) tone of the tube, why spend more?
6)I am not going to criticize the Blues jr. It is a great amp, but in my opinion, overpriced for its size and features. It is a single channel amp and if you need a boost for a solo, there is no second channel to switch to on the fly. I also like to use chorus, which it does not have. It's reverb is useable, but cannot be switched "off" on the fly. I own a Blues jr. and have ended up buying 4 or 5 pedals to use with it. That makes for a great setup, but the pedals average $80-$100 each, making the total cost high.

As you "test drive" new amps, don't be overly influenced by the "tube purests", especially if you are fairly new to playing and equipment, and your choice of music doesn't take full advantage of tube sounds. Consider a 65 watt to 120 watt SS and down the road, look at a bigger/better sound through an expensive tube amp if you can justify it.

Have you considered or tried the Superchamp XD? I just sold my Marshall DSL401 and knew I didn't want a Marshall solid state, so I was so close to picking up the VOX AD30 but the guy I sold the Marshall to told me about the Superchamp XD. To make a long story short, I waited to find one, tried it and now bought it. Have a look at the specs. Its 15watt tube hybrid amp. Some say its solid state, some say its tube. It has a preamp tube, 2 power tube with the DSP in between. Whatever it is it sounds great. Here in Canada I picked mine up for $299 cdn, so I'm sure the US price isn't too far off. If your not familiar with the SCXD it has some amp modeling and a few built in effects. 1 word of advice. Bring your own guitar in when you try it out. Goodluck.

I've owned a Blues Jr for several years now, it is an excellent amp for the price. I once had a 1950s tweed Deluxe, and the Blues Jr approaches the raunchy dirty sound of the Deluxe when it's cranked, or can be squeaky clean, too. And the 15 watt BJ is louder than you'd expect. I also have a Marshall MG15CD, a very good practice amp, but the Blues Jr produces a much sweeter, natural sound than the artificial distortion sound of the solid state MG amp. You will not be disappointed if you choose the Blues Jr.

I have a Marshall MG100 half stack and a Fender Deluxe 90, both solid state. I just picked up a used Blues Jr, and it has a way different sound than the other 2 amps. It works well blues or rock with light natural distortion. Much more responsive than solid state. The Blues Jr souunds great when plugged through my Marshall 4x12 cab!! I figured doing this would cut the volume because its powering more speakers, but no the sound is way fuller and just as loud if not louder. I am going to try it at a gig tonight for the first time.. I let y'all know how it goes! Should be fun!
