Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Bernstein, but that is no "exposé".

Most folks knew I had this amp and that I used it for work on a regular basis.

And it wasn't the first transistorized rig I ever owned.

But I can promise you a "scoop" that's fit for the tabloids......

It's my last.

Now go rent a tux so you're attired in a manner befitting your acceptance of a Pulitzer Prize.

Rats. I thought I had an "exclusive". :(

I don't look good in a tux anyway. Last tux I wore was at my wedding in 1976. I'm sure you remember what they looked like back then.

Lot's of folks have used SS amps. Santana used Solid State amps at woodstock! BB King has used Lab Series amps and Les Paul used Tech 21. I'm not certain but I've heard rumors that even the Righteous Reverend Willie G has used Valvestate amps.

If you want tube tone, you might want to look and aren't looking for too much clean look at a Jet City JCA20H half stack. You can buy the head for 199 and the cabinet for 149 or less used. It's a great little amp that's designed by Mike Soldano, based on the Astroverb 16, and you probably wouldn't need the pedal to run through it. I used it for quite a while until I was able to move up to a DRRI (Deluxe Reverb Reissue).

+1. Great little amps for the money. I like them way better than the Blues and Pro Jr amps. They seem built better. Soldano wouldn't have it any other way. I'm thinking about picking up one of their cabs for my little 5 watt kit amp. The cabinets sound really good especially for $150.

Hey! I never updated on the matter. Well, I went to the store a few weeks ago, they had brought in a new 65r (which has been discontinued by fender for quite some time now) from another city, the last one left! As I was walking into the guitars and amps rooms, I heard a beautiful sound coming out of a grey grilled amp, on closer inspection a frontman 212! I talked to the guy playing a bit as I enjoyed the sounds and went to test the 65r. It sounded ok, but I wasnt really getting inspred by it at all, I played for about an hour and started noticing some buzzing and cracking and the amp was eventually diagnosed as malfunctioning, no wonder it was the only one left. Anyway, I had tought I had to "settle for the 212" and pay the "unecesary" extra cash! but all that dissapeared as I started playing through it! It was not only better than the 65r but just waaaaay, way better. I was really loving the sound. The second speaker in it gives it, sooooo much more, body and presence, I got really inspired and played for about another hour until they shut me up, lol.

So I'm going for it, they will save one for me until my guitar arrives who knoiws when (I ordered it half a year ago) so that I can test and finally get my gear!

I'll update when the stuff is home, laterz!

Well it can be done without solder skills but you do have to take off the strings, unscrew the pick guard, disassemble the pups from their mounts and change the covers. Then go backwards in steps to put it back together.

If you do this I would first measure the current height of your pups from the pick guard to the tops of your pups so you know how to approximately have those in the same position as before the change. I'd also measure the distance between the tops of the pups and the bottom of the Low E and High E stings so you can have that in approximate position. If you don't change string height or string gauge you should be in good shape afterwards.

So "rocket science"? No.
Some skill in taking things apart and being careful with measurements? Yes.

Also use some type of cloth to protect your guitar finish as you will be flipping the pick guard onto the top of the guitar.

Or, pay the $100 and not worry about the above! What you are paying is for the Labor of about an hour or so to do the above.

+1

Work slowly and methodically -- patience is the key when working on a guitar or amp.

perfect answer thanks! Yes I'm good at taking things apart carefully. What should I use to get the measurements, would any ruler work? thanks man!

For working on instruments I keep a couple of calipers on hand -- one to measure outside diameters, one to use on inside diameters -- and a 6-inch steel rule graduated in both SAE and metric increments (you may find that millimeter measurements are quite handy for setting the height of your pickups).
