Hey all,

I've got a hot rod deluxe tube amp with a problem. The reverb is not working at all.

I had a techie look at it - he saw that a cable to the tank was broke - he re-soldered it. Problem is, that the reverb still doesn't work. Now, I live in a small town less than 100k with only 2 music stores in the area. The techie I went to is great with guitars, but only somewhat proficient with amps and electronics. He, honestly, explained to me that it was beyond him. I, myself, suck at electronics.

I need a bit of advice as how to trouble shoot what's wrong with the onboard reverb on this amp - it's partially the reason I bought this amp (spring reverb!!!) - besides being a nice tube amp, so losing reverb is quite an issue. Any website about the reverb tanks in these amps would be welcome. I'll also take input on people who work on these amps as input, but I'd hate to ship it as it's quite heavy - 2x12 amp close to 60 lbs. . .

Thanks in advance, all!

RockabillyJoe

Oh, BTW, this did work quite well when I bought it many, many, moons ago (approx. 5 years). I know it's been moved around as I gig quite a bit on weekends, and I know the amp (even tho in an SKB case), has been jostled around a bit in our trailer, and the loss of reverb is recent. . . .

Have you tried a new reverb tank?

That was the last thing to fail on mine before I dumped the miserable sonofabitch.

+1 on the tank itself.

BTW, it's a Deville, not a Deluxe.

Doesn't matter, shimmilou.

They both use the same Korean-made reverb tank, P/N 050394.

I'm guessing that the failure rate for that part is averaging about 50%.

My HRDlx has a USA made reverb tank, and so do the Devilles. It matters when the amps were made, they did switch to foreign made at some point, but even the first MIM versions had USA made tanks, yet the part number is the same. The OP didn't say how old his was. I'm not sure when they changed from the USA made tanks, but the tank has a label stamped onto it.
