I just bought a second hand Deluxe Reverb RI and it's reverb doesn't work. I got a good deal and everthing else works tremolo included, so I am not worried but I would like to get the reverb going again. Now heres my problem:

The reverb unit doesn't work, when I took it out and plugged it into another amp with the same reverb type it wouldn't work. I found that the small coil on the output no longer conducts, So deadsville!

when I plug another unit into the reverb in/out of the amp the reverb is there but barely noticeable on 10.

I have checked the valves and replaced valve 4 (the reverb out valve) and switched the two AT7s so that I know that it isnt one of them.

Has anyone else got any immediate go to ideas? or is my next stop the qualified repairers station, cash in hand?

Since the inductor is toast, as you say, and you have swapped reverb tanks to verify,,,I think you are right to take it to a technician. It sounds as though something is amiss inside the amp that caused the original reverb tank to pop.

+1 If you don't have the testing tools, let someone who has them take a look.

Yup...it's repair shop time!
Tell them what you tried. Keep us informed of what happens.

Well we've taken it there and told the guy what we've tried and it turns out that it was just a couple of resistors and the tank - If our multi meter was actually working we could have tracked that on down easy.

The only down side is that he wants us to pay $80 for a reverb tank (thats about a $30 premium over the normal Australian price) but I think its best to go with it so we can hold him accountable for his work. It'd really suck if we got is back and 2 weeks later the reverb failed then we called him up and he said that its our fault because we gave him different parts and therefore we have to pay the same again to track down this new problem etc.

moral of the story is replace your multimeter.
