My camera gear is the same way. My film cameras are roughly 40 years old and some of my large format lenses are from the 1940's and still work fine today. I've been through 7 higher end digital cameras in the last 10 years mostly due to obsolescence, but a few were due to failure.

I used to do both medium format (2 1/4 x 1 7/8) and large format (4 x 5) black and white. Had my own darkroom. Still have my first digital SLR (Minolta) but it is showing its age.

Fun stuff Bill. I still shoot film. I have a full darkroom, two enlarges, three film and print processors the whole nine yards fully ventilated. But it's what I do to make a living. The digital stuff is way more pricey. My printer and scanner alone are over two grand. My software is almost the same and I just upgraded it again. Computers to run it all plus hard drives to store it all is ridiculous. I should just go back to playings music full time, it's cheaper.

I shot sports for several local newspapers, wrote and published articles and photo essays, exhibited in galleries. Even did weddings. This was all just side work.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I do commercial photography, products, corporate portraiture and fine art. I stopped doing weddings in the 80's. I was doing family portraiture for a while, but the poor economy killed a lot of it. The industry has really changed. Commercials guys who were getting two grand a day are getting scarce, guys like me who were doing $1200 a day are now working for $800 a day because digital photography seemed to take the value away. If we didn't own our home and studio and everything in it, I'd be out of business like many other photographers I know in the Philadelphia area. I'm so glad I'm virtually debt free.
