Hi Everyone, just wondering if anybody has a Marshall amp and how they like them. I`ll be in the market for a new amp soon and was considering a Marshall. I`ve never owned one and I don`t know much about them. I`m going to try a Marshall and the Fender Deluxe Reverb to see what I like better but was looking for some experienced input. Thanks

I've been experienced 30 years ago with a JCM 800 combo and a little bit desapointed due top the fact it was "loud" and heavy saturated (very metal oriented).
However, old fashion JTM45 and bluesbreaker are great amps, not so far from Bassman in term of electronics.
May be to compare with the DRRI, try a 1974x (but take care on transformers weeknesses).
Modern Marshalls are not my favorits but it's a question of taste. Other members can give you feedbacks.

I have the Class5 amp. My only Marshall.
Pretty loud for a 5Watt!

Yup. I have a Class 5 and have gigged at smaller clubs with it. It has an amazing sound. Really the only new Marshall I'm interested in, other than the vintage reissues and handwired ones like the 1974x, which would be perfect but way out of my budget right now!

Anything up to and including the JCM 800 is awesome in my opinion. I just got to play out of a 70s JMP 50 watt 2X12 combo not too long ago, and that thing literally blew my socks off! The key is finding something you'll actually be able to crank and enjoy. I briefly had a JCM900 I acquired in a trade. I wasn't crazy about the sound of that amp (much more grainy, aggressive sound than the JCM800), and it was way too frickin' loud for anything I ever needed. Robin Trower and Dave Navarro are a couple guys off the top of my head who have gotten good Strat sounds out of JCM900s, but maybe that's cause they can afford to actually have a half-stack cranked so that the output tubes are clipping! Any time I did that, the cops would be at my house 10 minutes later.

But yeah, vintage Marshalls are killer. You should try a Class 5. Great way to get that Plexi sound in a package that's actually usable at home.

Another thumbs up for the Class 5. Humbuckers or single-coils, it doesn't matter. It's an affordable way to get plexi/Bluesbreaker-style sounds at a manageable volume at home.
