I'm new to tube amps so please forgive what may be a silly question. Is it possible (i.e. advisable) to hook up an audio device such as an MP3 Player to the Power Amp IN of a HRD so that I can play through the amp along with a backing track?

Hi Bluer Monkey,

No

Plugging into the "Power Amp In" directly will disable the amp input, vol and tone controls.

One way to go would be to use something like a POD in the loop (Pre Out ---> POD ---> Power In) or up front, with the POD connected to a computer for the backing tracks. I have never liked the sound of anything more than a guitar through a guitar amp, music or backing tracks just don't sound good through the amp.

When I want to jam along with a song or backing tracks, I use a POD, computer and headphones with no amp. This sounds fantastic, doesn't disturb others, and no need to fire up an amp.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

Hi shimmilou. I'm a little embarassed  at the level of my ignorance but I thank you very much for your feedback and suggestions.

I plugged an MP3 player into INPUT 2 on my HRD and quickly realized that you're absolutely right about the sound quality. It's horrible.

The POD idea is certainly a viable option, but I'd rather play my guitar through the amp. This would require an audio source other than the amp for the backing track. Perhaps members of the community will chime in with their backing track set ups.

Cheers!
BM

For me, the ultimate backing track setup, the Fender G-DEC 3 Thirty.

I play out using these amps for backing tracks. With an SD card, your possibilities are flat out endless. Of course, with this amp, you don't need your "other" amp.
