Hi guys

I hope that you can help me.

I recently bought a USA deluxe tele to go with my MIM strat with updated 57/62 pickups. I am really happy with both guitars but the one thing missing is a Tube amp to make them both sound sweet (Well as sweet as they can with my playing)!

I currently own a Vox AD50VT which in all honesty I have hated it since I bought it so I am planning on upgrading my amp and my needs have changed since I bought the Vox. I was playing in a band at the time and the day I bought it was the day that we day the band stopped playing together.

I want those classic fender clean tones and the bluesy tones that fender amps are known for in a home playing/rehearsing/small gig amp.

I have narrowed it down at the Blues junior and the Princeton RI

From watching/reading reviews on the net the blues junior has great bluesy tones but the cleans are not its speciality. Is this the case as I have no evidence to back this up? I found a thread on here that had good comments on the cleans but the reviews/forums said otherwise so I'd be interested to hear owners opinions on this as I have no idea.

The other amp I like the look of is the princeton 65 reissue. That seems to fit my criteria fully, however, it is nearly double the cost of the blues junior.

Is the princeton a worth the extra money or do you think that the blues junior would be a good option for my needs?

I have the trouble that there are no music shops near me that have them in stock and when ringing them they could not tell me when stocks were coming in. UK customer service for you! I would ideally like to try them out side by side but that is not looking possible.

Any help/advice would be fantastic and thank you in advance. :P

Tom

If you have the money, the Princeton is way better or find an old Silverface champ it should be cheaper than a new Blues Jr.

Hi guys

Thank you very much for the info I pretty much thought that was the case. I think I'll save for a little while and see what deal I can get. I have been offered a deal for a new one for £860 cash.

I'll have to see what my bank account says...

+1,000 on the Princeton. The Blues Jr can't hold a candle to it in any respect.

Thanks 63 supro

I had better get saving...I've found a dealer about 45 minutes away with one in stock who offer a 4 year warranty so that is sounding very appealing.

Cheers again I can't wait to pick one up and play it now. To hear those classic fender sounds would be so good.

The Princeton and the rest of the Blackface and many Silverface amps will get you the "Classic Fender" sounds. Nothing in the Hrd series are classic Fender sounds by any stretch of the imagination. I've owned many Balckface and Silverface Fender amps in the past 40+ years, so I do have a good reference. I can get way closer with my Egnater in 6V6 mode than any HRD amp.

Personally, if you want clean and growl, I'd spend a $100 more and get a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. You'll have tons more headroom and sparkling cleans that dirty up well with a good stompbox like a Visual Sound Route 808 or Visual Sound Open Road.

Hi Tony

I hear what you are saying about the Deluxe Reverb Reissue but I need the amp mainly for home playing so the 15 watt amp will probably suit my needs more as I live in a flat/apartment (Paper thin walls). I also have such a bad back the difference in weight will make a huge difference to me (12kgs as opposed to 19Kgs).

From what the other guys have said it looks like I'll get some great tones from the Princeton. You know what its like I'll probably get one of those and then buy a deluxe RI later on!

Thanks again for all of the responses they have been a great help. I can't get a new amp quick enough now. I'll have to sweet talk the wife...or not tell her! :D

That helps an awful lot. You can't beat peoples own experiences with these amps.

Just a thought. If this is a practice amp, have you considered a good, used Vibro Champ? Parts & tubes are readily available. And with a good speaker (like a Weber 8F150), this amp is quite a practice amp.

I use my VC and 5F1 Champ more than any other amps, at home. You can push the puppies to OD without pedals & threats from your sig other & neighbors.

If you buy wisely, you will not lose money. As these amps, original PR, & DR's are rising in resale price every year.

Thanks BMW I'll have a look on the used market although knowing my luck I'll buy a dud!

I like the idea of not getting it in the neck from my wife - especially with my playing!

The only thing is occasionally I may be jamming or hopefully small gigs so I will have to bear that in mind. I'll check out ebay when I get a minute and see if there are any deals going in the UK.

I just picked up a SF champ with a Weber 8F125. Sounds great with that speaker, cuz it doesnt' fart out like the other 8" I've heard.

Princeton is a better choice overall. The Bjr is a good amp but the Princeton is a GREAT AMP. There is an extra layer of "body" to it that brings it all to life

My 1965 Deluxe Reverb Reissue gets here tomorrow! :D I can't wait for all that clean goodness. I'll be a/b'ing it with my Jet City JCA20H which will do the heavy/hard stuff, the DRRI getting the clean and mild overdriven stuff!
