I have a Fender Blues Deville with four 10 inch fender speakers (each 8 ohmms, 30w, model V 1030).

I have the internal speaker jack connected up to one of the speakers. Are the remaining three speakers supposed to be simply connected in series, one from the other, starting from the one connected up to the internal speaker jack? Or, is it supposed to be some kind of parallel connections? The speakers had been disconnected from each other and the manual does not state how to connect them. I want to make sure I do it correctly.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I looked quickly at the info on the 4X10 Deville and Fender states that it is recommended to have a 4 or 8 ohm load. Given that there is an external speaker jack to add an extension speaker and that each of the 4X10 speakers are 8 ohm, the total of the 4 speakers in the amp must be 8 ohms to satisfy all the other criteria.

So, connect two speakers in series and do this twice (which will give 16 ohm in each of the two branches), then connect these two pairs in parallel which will give an 8 ohm overall load.

Then if you attach an extension cab with an 8 ohm overall load to the built in jack, the total load on the amp will be 4 ohms.

That should put it back to the configuration for which it was built.

Thanks a bunch, folks. Both posts were quite helpful. In this case (four 8 ohm speakers), a series connection between two parallel connections also yields the 8 ohms and this is what the picture posted shows (from the second helpful reply). That's how I now have it and all is well. After thinking about things in terms of the circuit (thanks to the first helpful reply), I realized that last night I had actually connected up all four speakers in parallel for a resulting 2 ohms. No wonder I needed an extra wire... Things worked, but were not correct. Good thing I did not use it much at all (just a few minutes to check that all speakers were on). Thanks again!

Glad I could help. I wasn't sure whether you wanted the stock wiring or if you were trying to do something else.

Yes, you are correct: series/parallel and parallel/series yield the same result in this instance.

Glad your problem is fixed!
