Photo of 'lytic caps, 0.0022 mfd coupling cap mod (with Sprague Black Beauty), and silver mica cap (250 pico-farad, right under black shielded cable line). Running GE 6V6GTY (most potent 6V6GT I have, at the moment). 1960's triple mica Sylvania 12AT7WA & Tungsram ECC83 (most potent 12AX7 I have).

I really hate showing this mod. With all the silicone sealer gunk. But, it's the only way to keep those heavy caps from damaging the board or tracings. I tied most of the replacement parts to the leftover pigtail, after cutting the original part out (but, leaving has much of the lead on the board).

These component and a good NOS tank works. So yes, if you are careful, it's worth it. IMHO.

Hey BMW,
Maybe you can answer this question for me. I just bought a 63 RI Fender Reverb and it has the following in this order:
First tube starting at the left:
V2 = Sylvania 6K6 GT
Second tube
V1 = GE, JAN 12AX7 WA
Third tube
V3 = Philips, JAN 12AT7 WC
Fender shows that the 12AX7 should be in V3 and the 12AT7 should be in V1???? Right now V1 and V3 are basically switched…..???? Was this done as a mod??? Or mistake????
Thanks…

Not BMW but .....

The original schematic shows the 12AT7 in V1 and the 12AX7 in V3:

So does the Reissue schematic:

Did you buy the reverb new or used?

Hi Bluesky,
Thanks for the reply, I bought it used …. I spoke with The Tube Store and apparently the tube set-up that’s in it is an upgraded vintage package they sell for $128.00 …they said some people switch the two 12’s for a different reverb effect. I also called Fender and they said they can be switched depending on what type of sound you want and will not harm the unit…. The reason I asked is that I can’t find anywhere on any forum or internet that talks about this???!!!!!???...kinda strange but interesting. I did swap them back to the original way but actually like it switched around better……

Mack, you can see the 6V6GT (not 6K6GT) on the left, the triple mica 12AX7WA in the middle, and the Tungsram ECC83/12AX7 on the right. Same layout as the original 6G15 circuit (expcept for 6K6GT instead of a 6V6GT). I can see mixing up the 12AX7 and 12AX7. But, hard to screw up the position of that 6V6GT. :D

BMW,
Thanks, i found out that the 6K6 is an older tube the apparently some use for a different sound and as far as swapping the 12ax7 and 12at7; that also is an option according to Fender and The Tube Store. Gives it a warmer reverb sound. The unit can run with either tube in either location…. It’s all sound preference. I put them back the way it came but like it much better switched….definitely a lot warner reverb effect IMO… :D :D :D
