Considering half of that gear took 15 minutes to fix, soldering included, and hours to get to, and the lives at risk if it failed, makes sense to use the proper tools to build and fix it.

Although I saw a lot of "crap" come out of Motorola when they were creating some solid state $h!F. And they actually expected EAM's to pass through that gear.

Oh yeah, we received a brand new Collins 651 (I think) real cool digital readout. VHF didn't work worth a damn! Ended up having to go back to HF to talk to the weekly Scare America flight.

Oh come on Arjay! I loved working on those Collins HF radios, with their test points one eighth of an inch from 500VDC. Too much coffee made it very exciting!
