A friend of mine has a bdri about a year and a half old, wants 500.00 for it and i have been looking for a good tube amp that will have the fender cleans, and take pedals well he says it breaks up to fast for him and is going to get a vox ac30. I am looking for the perfect amp. Will a bdri do it all with pedals? They say the hrd has more headroom. Should i shoot for a Egnater Rebel 30 head and cab? Blackstar perhaps? what would you do if it was perhaps your last amps knock on wood? I Love the cleans of a fender but don't like it to chimy like a good low bassey sound, great tone, and reliability. I play a PRS Tremonti, fender superchamp xd, for practice right now. Thanks for any Sug.

Egnater Rebel 20 and find it way more versatile than any of the HRD series amps. Mine's been incredibly reliable for over a year and a half. It's voiced a little differently than the Rebel 30. I like the tube mix and watts control as well as the bright and tight switches.

Try them all out if you can. The HRD series IMO miss the traditional Fender Clean by a mile. Yoy may also want to check out the Egnater Tweaker series. They have models from 15 to 88 watts.

5 bills is a bit high for a used reissue in the hot rod series

For not a whole lot more you can get a used DRRI (65 Deluxe Reverb RI)
5 times the amp !!!
USA made, tube sockets mounted to the chassis, not the PCB
Built to last !

My Blues Deluxe Reissue breaks up pretty early as well, but that is what I got it for, that early breakup blues. I like the cleans I get from it as well, good thick tone with my strats. It handles pedals straight in pretty well but the effects loop is a little temperamental. I have heard you can switch the tubes out and get just about whatever tone you are looking for...

I have an Egnater Tweaker 15 that handles pedals in the effects loop great and the cleans are spot on, a lot smaller and I have a 2 x 12 extension cab and also use a Blues Deville 4 x 10 as a speaker cab for it. It is dead quite, but it will get pretty rowdy when I overdrive it with my Hardwire CM2 and Fulltone Fulldrive 2.

My Blues Deville has great cleans and a lot of headroom, but it is huge and mostly stays in one place. Pretty much the same sound as my Blues Deluxe reissue, only much louder.

My fav is the Blues Deluxe Reissue with the Cannabis Rex in it for jamming. For writing I like the Egnater Tweaker because I can get a lot more amp sounds out of it and it is a pretty silent amp in the studio. Hardly any hiss. Sometimes I don't even think it is on until I hit a chord.

I use a Weber Mini Mass 50 watt attenuator on all of them when I need it..

Don't rush into a purchase if there's no hurry. Take your time, let your ears be the judge. Spend a lot of time with any amp you're considering. Don't limit your choices to just tube amps. There's some nice SS amps out there. There might be a nice old Roland JC120 just waiting for you.

My personal favorite is the Princeton Reverb. It's not high powered but it's a professional quality amp with tone to spare. The Deluxe Reverb is also hard to beat. My brother in law has an older silverface DR that looks new. He refuses to sell it!

An SS amp I really like is the Series 1 Yamaha G100 1x15. It's got a versatile parametric EQ that brings it to life.

Just suggestions. It's really your ears that know best.

Regards,

I have owned both the blues deluxe and the hot rod deluxe .... And I play mainly in a big band jazz ensemble... (15 members) So, I really need an amp with a lot of head room...

bot the blues and hr deluxe amps broke up too early...

I now own 2 deluxe reverbs (ri), one for gigging and one for home... I never intend to buy another amp... ever...
