I remember when everyone was getting brass nuts. Remember brass nuts?[/quote]

I sure do. I fixed the sustain problem with my Strat with a Sunn Scepter and a 4x12 cab.
 I still know a bass player with a Badass bridge and he still loves it. There were a lot of butchered up guitars back then. Remember when some folks were removing the pickup covers from their Humbuckers? I actually top wrap the strings on my Les Paul Tribute. I just like the way it looks. I can't really hear any of the more of the magic sustain that some players claim.

Not necessarily. Beam blockers do alter the sound.

'An obstruction will reflect sound back towards the cone, which will "re-reflect" the sound forward. The time it takes sound to make this extra trip means that the reflected sound will be delayed by some amount compared to sound that didn't make the extra trip. The response of the combined sound - slightly delayed plus undelayed - will contain interference ("comb filters"). The "phasiness" some folks describe when they install beam blockers is due to these comb filters....If you find these effects desirable - as a number of players apparently do - then there is nothing wrong with the use of "blockers," but they don't cause the directivity changes their makers attribute to them.'

So the beam blockers 'work' in as much as they alter the path of the sound waves. They just don't cause the even dispersion as claimed.

At only $18 a pop, if you like the sound with them great; if not return them. I'd rather tweak different speakers and tubes, but to each his own.

I've used duct tape for years. It cheap, works, and easy to remove. If you gigged for shows where the amps are provided, a little duct tape works. I put it over the front of the monitor horn too, cause sometimes its too piercing.

A better bet would be Gaffer Tape. It's made to be removed easily. Duct Tape can be a little rough on some grill cloths.

Any type of tape applied to grill cloth will likely leave adhesive residue which will discolor over the years and become quite visible. Better to remove the speaker(s) and stick it on the reverse side to prevent this.

If its someone else's equipment provided in the backline of amps, I wouldn't remove the grill cloth. Gaffers tape, masking tape,,, I've also taped cardboard squares and cd's to the front of speaker cabs.

A blanket over the front of a HRDlx I had helped some with the ice pick forehead syndrome. The absolute best way around this problem is get a great sounding amp in the first place. No tape, blankets or cardboard required. I've used gaffers tape for on all kinds of surfaces including fabrics with no problems even under some hot modeling lights. Grill cloth is a pretty different animal though. Use Gorilla Tape and you'll be replacing the grill cloth if you try to remove it.

Roy Buchanan used to turn his '66 Vibrolux Reverb around and play it "backwards".
