Shim,
Having some issues with my Deluxe VM. Not sure if it is the tubes or possibly the rectifier. The other night I was playing and all of a sudden a really loud buzzing sound started to come out of the amp. I turned it off and then started it back on about 5 minutes later. All went well for about 20 minutes and again same thing. I changed tubes and it did the same...not sure what it could be. Could there possibly be a cold solder joint somewhere?? What would your thoughts be?
Cheers,
ABS :D

Hi airbornestrat,

Can't you afford better advice?

Did you change all 4 tubes?

Yes, I would certainly look for a poor connection such as solder joints anytime that you have an intermittent problem.

Temperature related? Your description sounds like it could be something that only happens after the amp is warmed up.

LOL,
Cost isn't the issue. You have been a wealth of knowledge here and well, I am more of a luthier than an amp tech! LOL, so before I went in and took it to the shop I wanted to see if I was going down the right track!

Well lads...I talked to the Fender repair guy in my area and the prognosis is this...Cold solder joints on the power tubes and also a bad 12AX7 rectifier tube. Soooo....my amp was repaired and is being picked up on thursday!!!

Glad it's nothing serious and sounds like the shop gave it a thorough examination. BTW, a 12AX7 is a preamp or phase-inverter (PI) tube, the rectifier is solid-state (SS) in your amp.
