No mods at all, i got such a change from just adding that 5751 that I didn't even heat up the soldering iron........Not gonna sell off my vintage fender stuff, however i sure don't hate the tone of this one.

For <$10 in parts and less than an hour of your time, do the mod. Can't possibly hurt, and there's the good chance you'll like the flexibility! :)
Then on to speakers

All of my speakers are in 2x12 cabs wired for 4 ohms

I don't own a 1x12 right now so......

I still want to know how to "jumper" the Sag resistors as I here it tightens the bass response even more.

Jumper wire across one side of the resistors ?? or what, anyone try it yet ?

I don't know the answer to your question, but have you read through the post of modifications on the Gretsch forum? There is a lot more there than I'll ever care to know or try, and some of those guys took modifications way beyond practical IMO. If you have the time to read through it, you may find your answer....it's quite lengthy: http://gretschpages.com/forum/other-amp ... 433/page1/

Thanks for the link !

That was indeed a lot of reading

I had not seen where further mods were needed after bridging the sag resistors
These guys seem to think it does.

I'll keep digging

Has anyone tried a 12dw7 in v2? I was thinking that the high mu portion of the tube would be good for the trem circuit and the low mu side would suit the cathodyne phase inverter circuit better. I read on the data sheet that it was intended for this purpose.

Thanks in advance.
