I've noticed that when playing through the clean channel on my HRD if I turn the Volume up and hit some high notes the Yellow lamp for the Drive channel sometimes cuts on very fast as though its switching to that channel. My amp was made in 1997. When distorted on clean its more noticable. Does anyone know why its doing this? Its not a problem but has me concerned that something may blow. Thanks in advance.

Possibly the solder joints around the 5 watt resistors and zeners in the relay/op-amp power supply, or a bad relay.

Lots of good info here to read about, there are pictures also.

A tech should be able to easily find the problem.

Mebbe you should take it to one of those "local techs" and avoid diddling in a milieu where you have no knowledge or experience. You'll likely do more damage than good.

Thanks guys..The tech wanted $150 to replace my Weber 12F150 from the stock speaker. I figured out how to drain the caps and did it myself. My problem is paying for the fix. Its not rampant, only with the clean channel cranked when the tubes break up and high frequencies. Does not do it on the drive/more drive channel. I think I will use my EQ pedal more. I'll talk to the guy, but I know he will say "Bring it in so I can see whats wrong", and get a hefty bill. Money is tight ,but I want my amp running smooth.

Don't worry. The problem will go away soon enough ....... when the amp dies completely because needed repairs were ignored.

Yesterday I did a maintenance on the amp and cleaned all the Switches, Jacks and Pots with Contact cleaner. Two of the Pots were scratchy. I played the amp for about two hours. Had it cranked on the Clean channel, no more switching issue. Everything is running smooth. Thanks for the input.
