After playing guitar for 30 years, and Fenders for the last 10 (including amps), I believed the hype and bought an expensive Marshall combo. I pushed my Fender BDRI to the corner and tried so hard to make the Marshall work. I tricked myself into believing it sounded better just because I wanted it to.

Well, a couple of days ago I plugged into my BDRI with all my pedals and there was no comparison. Tone is subjective and I know a lot of peeps like Marshall's tone better, but it isn't for me. I missed the slightly overdriven cleans, the full bodied notes, how it took pedals so well... I've come back home where I belong!

Each amp has its strengths and weaknesses, and can get sounds that the other can't. No reason that you can't enjoy both. I have several amps, all over the tone spectrum, each is sweet in its own way. One day I think one amp is better and the others not as much, then another day I might prefer a different one more. Nice to have options. :D

Ha! That's funny. Now, of course, I'm gassing for an Egnater. I guess I'm terminal.

I've played all the amps I needed for the last 40 yrs., and guess what? I sound the same through all of them. I finally came to that conclusion and sold my Marshall stack, Half stack, and my Mesa boogie. I bought two new DRRI's and I can play anywhere and not break my back and they fit in my little HHR with no problem.

I think that something is seriously wrong if you sound the same whether using a Marshall stack or a DRRI.

Maybe you need a new battery for your hearing aid?

An amp is like this "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell" (Shimmilou      )

Seriously, what amp did you compare to the DR ? Did you try a Bluesbreaker or a 1974 ?

I have Marshalls, Peaveys, you name it...I only use Fender! I found the tone that I have always wanted with my Fenders so well, why go and mess with perfection? Yes, to me Fender is perfection!

I had sold a lot of gear due to a disabling auto-immune disease, even had no guitar or amp. I used to be a anything but Gibson and anything but Marshall sucks. My first guitar back was a cheap Squier strat that I bought used. I loved the guitar, but wanted a humbucker and when I started getting a little income, I got a strat HSS, ended up upgrading all the pups with dimarzio paf pro and area 67's, and bought a Jet City JCA20H with matching 1x12 cabinet. Now don't get me wrong, my JCA isn't bad on clean but excels at overdriven dirt, and super high gain, especially after a jj eurotube complete retube kit. And now the plot thickens.

A familiy member wanted me to get another amp because the JCA wasn't clean enough and in the process, I ended up with a DRRI. I love the clean tone! It takes all my pedals well, overdrives well with my pedals, and is an all around awesome amp. However, will I get rid of the DRRI? Heck no, as much as I love the DRRI, it doesn't do some of the high gain stuff I do well. As much as I am in love with my JCA, it doesn't do clean and mild to mid overdrive as well as the DRRI. That's why they make aby switches! PLUS, both amps weigh about 50lbs each, not too bad on my back!

+1!

My days of dragging around a 100-pound + Twin Reverb are over.
