First let me say that I am a newbie here. So hello to my fellow players and to the "late greats"
I need some help.
I am looking to buy an amp.
I am not much into the modeling stuff. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate everything. Just not for me.

I am looking at two Fender amps

The Fender 57 Twin and the Fender 57 Deluxe

I have played both many many times, and I am stuck.
My question, which one??

My days of playing out on a regular basis are few and far between. Hence the lean towards the Deluxe. But then I change my mind and think, well there are times I do play out, and the Twin would be nice.

Any comments, advice is greatly appreciated :D

Difficult to say that one is better, I try both and I was enjoy!
May be the Deluxe is lighter if the power is enough for your use.

If I had the coin I would get both
I just got another guitar, so I am pretty much at my limit.

I was also looking at a smaller HIWATT.

Any opinions on those is also greatly appreciated!!!

How dare I mention HIWATT on a Fender website

I play 50's 60's & 70's rock/ blues some 80's stuff.

Big Floyd, Hendrix, Cream, Who, SRV, Beatles fan, to name a few.

Thanks again!!

I didn't mean that (re: Hiwatt) - I made a mistake and I guess you can't delete on this board. I didn't read your post very thoroughly - just jumped in.

Do you use pedals with your amp or rely on the amp itself for the distorted sound?

And one last question - what size venues do you play when you play out? Is there usually a PA / sound guy / monitors?

If I had paid more attention I would have realized I haven't played through either of those amps - just a DRRI and a Twin. So I really shouldn't have posted.

But....I was going to say that If the 57 Deluxe is loud enough I'd go with that and let the PA / monitors do their work but like I said above - I really have no clue....

damn - busted

ps - not being sarcastic - hard to convey on the intertube sometimes

No problem whatsoever man 8)
I appreciate your time and input!!

I use pedals.
I usually play outside, parties, town fairs stuff like that.

I Have not gigged indoors for quite sometime, and I do not see myself doing so in the near future.

This next amp purchase will probably be my last, so that I why I am beating myself to death over it

Man - they are both such sweet amps, you really can't go wrong. It just depends how big of a venue you want to fill, and how much clean headroom you "need". That 12-watt '57 Deluxe sounds like it'd really be in the sweet spot for a lot of smaller gigs, but then again I always like to have an amp I can dime and then adjust volume/gain with the guitar vol. knob. I bet that thing sounds sweet cranked.

If you play with pedals though, and outside without PAs, the 40-watt Twin might be a better choice for you.

They both sure look great! Can you rent one to try it out?

I bet no matter which one you buy it wouldn't cost you too much to just sell it and buy the other if it didn't work out.

Jump in!

good luck,
dave

Thanks again for all the feedback!
Fender people are good people, one and all

Unfortunately no rentals. I check with my surrounding GC's and when they have one, I usually set up shop for the day. But it is tough to push an amp at GC. They usually start to-itch and moan. And I do not think I am that bad of a player. I could always buy one, then return it. It is tough to find a GC that has the top end stuff. I am leery of buying something used. Now that is just me.

I am leaning toward the Deluxe. Although the Custom 50 HIWATT has my eye. I have wanted a HIWATT since I was a kid and first heard Townshend. Thing is a TANK of an amp.

Any HIWATT owners out there?

I am leaning towards the HIWATT Custom 50.
Had a chance to play one. It is amazing.

You don't get the nickname Bulldog for nothing.
