i know this is an amateur question but i know very little of amplifier repair. What i do know is that the input jack on my frontman 15b bass amp is malfunctioning. I know the most common problem is that a little piece of metal, i believe its the ground, needs to be bent back into place. I am inside the amp but input is encased in black plastic. How do i bend this piece of metal that i cant get to. Thank you

Hey...I don't know what the jack looks like first hand, but can you remove the sleeve? Is it threaded or slid on?

If the plastic sleeve isn't designed to be removed easily, I'll go out on a limb and say break it off, if that looks safe to do...

Before doing that, ensure that it is a sleeve only. I have no idea what kind of weird plastic engineering goes on in some amps.

If you're not comfortable w/messing with the jack, a new one shouldn't be too much.

You may need to replace it or have a tech do it. Usually they're too cheesy to repair.

The lack of a rush of replies may be down to the fact that the golden rule when fixing anything you plug into the mains is "if you don't know what you're doing, don't". Take it to a techie (and perhaps ask him to *show* you how he fixes it).

You can't open the plastic jack. You either have to replace it with a stock unit or an all-metal Switchcraft jack. In either case, this means removing the circuit board and digging into the amp's innards to remove the old one and solder in the new one. This should be done by a qualified tech.
