Hello. I have owned the DRRI for a little over one year now and love it dearly. I have heard many times that swapping the speaker can refine the tone even more but I havent had the chance to try anything yet. Which speaker would you pros suggest and why? What changes in the tone would I hear?

Thanks for any assistance!

Welcome!

I have not used the amp you have, but I've found Celestion Vintage 30s work very well w/Fender amps. Yrs ago, I had them in a SF Twin, more recently in cabs being powered by BF Bassman amps.

It, to my ears, gives it a bit more of a British flavor, although it still sounds like a Fender. Great cleans, and improved crunch. At least a couple friends feel the same way re Fender amps and Vin 30 spkrs. Works well w/both closed and open back enclosures.

The other night I used a 67 Bassman head w/a 2x12 closed back cab, loaded w/Eminence Red Coat Pvt Jacks, which are greenback clones. Absolutely killer, but the gb clones made it sound a bit less Fenderish than Vin 30s.

I'd recommend an Eminence Patriot Red White and Blues.

(I hope this isn't dragging this thread off topic, it certainly sort of relevant):

Has anyone any experience of the Celestion Heritage range of speakers? I'm looking at either the G12M or G12H...

No offence but if you like the way it sounds now, why change the speaker?

I think that if there's something about the sound that you're dissatisfied with, and a speaker change might help, then look into the one that'll give you what you want.

But hey, what do I know?
