well i thought at first it was the tube (V1/12AX7/supersonic 22)
but when i wiggled the tube gently, i got all kind of hiss/static but NO pops
so i think the connection is not that bad but def needs to be fixed.
Pulled the chassis and re-tensioned the socket based on the method of inserting a very
small jeweler screwdriver into each hole and turning gently.
That seemed to help but I still have some play when i touch the actual contact tabs (where the wires are soldered on back of socket)
The tabs on the other sockets are firm - any tricks to fix OR do i have to replace the socket?
This amp was bought new and is only a year old
here is the pic:

With the tube removed from the socket, a small amount of play is normal and good for the pins. You want the socket pins to be able to move a little, to be able to line up with the tube pins which can vary from tube to tube. Sometimes, a little too much solder on the terminals can make the pins feel stiff without movement. Two terminals, next to each other, soldered together, will also feel stiffer for those pins.

If the terminals still feel loose with a tube inserted in the socket, the socket pins should be re-tensioned, and if that doesn't work, replace the socket.

Make sure that you get the screwdriver between the socket pin and the wall around the pin, and down into the hole past the flared opening. Best to do each pin in two places at least, once on each side of the split in the socket pin, until you can visually see that the pin hole looks smaller. You don't want to twist too hard, yet you have to use enough force to actually bend the metal back into place, maintaining the round shape.
