Guitar Center doesn't have a listing for the blackface DRRI, only a limited edition one. MusiciansFriend still has the blackface though. It makes me worry that it would be going away :( . I just wanted to say that I think it's a great amplifier and I hope it sticks around. It would be a shame to see it taken off the market.

Fear not. Even if the amp were to be discontinued, there's a ten-year supply of them available for sale on Ebay.

I've got a friend that works at GC and he had indicated that the DRRI is a consistantly good selling amp and will be in the product line for a long time. He did say you can expect to see a price increase soon of about 10% as several of the Fender products have recently seen. Some amps that aren't selling as well which he said might be on the way out are the Custom Vibrolux Reverb and Super Reverb. Most people love the Super Reverb but just don't like it's weight and look for lighter options. Still I doubt it goes away either, maybe just a production adjustment to decreased demand.

Both the CVR and SRRI are losers (for a variety of un-related reasons) and, legendary though it may be, so is the TRRI. Better to revamp the blackface line with a conventional re-issue VR and Pro Reverb -- both are better-suited for contemporary venues and lighter to haul around. Keep the Princeton Reverb and Deluxe Reverb of course.

JMO, YMMV

Arjay,

Please expand on your comments about the SRRI and TRRI being "losers."

I really respect your insights and would be very interested in your thoughts.

I understand your reasoning for the lighter VR and Pro.

Thanks,

Paul

Too heavy, too awkward to carry (in the case of the SRRI), and too powerful (in the case of the TRRI). Technologically, they're both fine amps. But the lion's share of interest in having a re-issue is owed to aging baby boomers -- many of them like me, now in less-than-stellar physical health. And most clubs and saloons are insisting that live bands roll their stage volume back. My opinion, but it is an opinion based in fact. I own a pair of Twin Reverbs; neither of them has seen a stage for over a year now. My current stage rig is a pair of modded Deluxe Reverbs (the enigmatic "Spankmaster Reverbs") or a Vibroverb and a Pro Amp (both from 1964). They're lighter, more carry-friendly, and I can crank them into "the zone" without causing a seismic event or aural fatigue among audience members.

Thanks Arjay.

What you say makes sense.

It would be great if Fender came out with a true reissue of the Vibrolux Reverb.

All the best,

Paul

I told Shane Nichols of FMIC precisely that almost one year ago to the day, at the Tempe guitar show (which is tomorrow).

Fender halting DRRI production would be the smartest move they've ever made. Then they could reflect on some of the cheap components and poor QC that goes into them.

Take a trip back 10 years. That's how the RI's are supposed to be made.

And don't get me wrong- I love Fender amps.

+10000

My DRRI is a '94 -- the first year of production after the model was re-introduced. In eighteen freaking years, it's never even had a hiccup! It's logged at least 350 gigs and likely three times that number of rehearsals, jams, open-mic nights, everything.

Don't let anyone kid you......they really don't build things like they used to.

:(
