Hi all! I'm new to these forums and was hoping someone could offer some help. This is the first tube amp I have ever owned, so I may be a bit of a dummy with regards to how it all works. So please, bare with me.

So I own, and love, a 65 super reverb reissue. The tone is awesome and all that, HOWEVER, when I turn the volume up past 3 or 4, there is often a very harsh buzz sound that seems to be coming from the tubes. This seems to be much more pronounced when playing certain notes higher up on the neck on the b and g strings. Also, there is definitely a rattle/buzz coming from the tubes that is always there once the volume reaches a certain point.

So, this amp is LOUD(!) so I'm guessing that it's safe to assume that once the volume gets so high, that it's going to be near impossible to stop everything from rattling, but there is definitely an issue somewhere that's causing the harsh buzzing when playing certain notes.

Do you think this could simply be a tube problem? I order it straight from the factory and this has been an issue since day one. Unfortunately I have been traveling a lot for work and I've had to leave the problem for sometime now.

Also, if a tube replacement could fix this, does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking this would be a good set to try:

Thanks in advance for any info.

Seriously? No one even has an opinion?!
I guess I'm spoiled by the knowledgeable folks on the Gibson boards.

Yes those tubes are good choice. But you don't know which tube (s) are noisy . Are you sure noise are coming from the tubes ? If you can "hold" each tube ,with piece of clothe ( they are hot) when a friend play guitar at same time you'll probably find which tube.
Don't forget, if you put new power tube , like 6L6 you need a bias adjustment by an electronic tech. For all other tube , in your amp, it is plug and play.

You can make short test with a new set of 6L6 before checking bias , if you need to find which tube are noisy.

It is too bad for your fist tube amp you have some problem. You see and ear tubes amp give the best tone.

Too bad Gibson doesn't make a Super Reverb... :P

Look in the back of your amp, take a look at the first tube from the left, that's your rectifier... if it says Ruby on it most likely that's the culprit, get rid of it ASAP. Or you can try to troubleshoot it yourself to find out which tube is rattling. Use a pencil, lightly touch each tube with the eraser end while playing the notes that you know cause the rattle, if it stops that's the one you want to replace.

Good luck!

Pardon me, Mike, but Stratele gave you an initial response to your rattle problem. Cedar also mentioned the possibility of tube rattle. Am I missing something here? I know it's a hassle, but if we know what brand of tubes are in the amp, that might help. Just on the mechanical side, is everything nice and snug? Don't get us wrong. We're willing to help! Art

Great idea but use a chop stick, rubber melts and those 6L6s in my SR do get hot! Also if it is new it should be under warranty! Call Fender and see what they say also! I'm sure you'll figure it out. Good luck!

Since it is not a Gibson, I would take it off your hands for $200! :P
