Snowy, a question: How did you get the twisted wire pairs so tight and smooth? That was probably the hardest things to do when wiring my 5F6A clone. I tried holding the wires in a drill and running it slowly with little success, so I ended up doing it by hand which was ok, but does not look as clean as yours.

Bill, I wish there was some tip I could share about that but I just ran the twist as tight and neat as I could by hand, like you, I also tried an electric drill in the past and that seemed to work quite well too. It might also have something to do with the wire Trinity has supplied, all the wire is very nice solid core, USA made, the heater wire was pretty good to work with and held the twist very well, it had a light twist on it so I tightened it up by hand and made it neater.

I just realized that the wire in your amp is plastic coated where the wire in the 5F6A is cloth covered and feels kind of stiff. Maybe that has something to do with it also.

Here's the board loaded with components and leads added to one side, still a bit to go.

Here's the MOSFET wiring, the wires are extended for the Head version of the Tramp and will loop up over the board into their respective eyelets once the board is installed, this is due to the board sitting higher on the standoffs.

Power tube wiring completed.

Preamp tube wiring, almost complete, two more connections to go, one from pin8 back to the board and a shielded cable from pin 7 across the 330K resistor back to pin 2 of the Volume Pot (VR1). You can see these two point haven't been soldered yet.

Here's the board in it's final resting place in the chassis, time to start connecting wires.

A better shot clearly showing the purpose of extending the MOSFET leads.

Coming together nicely Snowy.

The glow of the filaments is nearly in sight!

I don't have the schedmatic handy. How is the MOSFET being used? I've seen them used a a pseudo-cathode follower.

Hi Bill,

The MOSFET is part of the VRM circuit (Voltage Regulation Module). It provides continuous variable control over the B+ voltage. Using the "Power Level" knob you can effectively control the amp's power output level, so you can get the tone you like at the volume you like (Rather than using an attenuator between amp and speaker).

It's also known as "VVR" (variable voltage regulator), a Google search will bring up lots of info. I know Trinity sell the modules as a separate little kit.

That makes a helluva lot more sense than using a stand-alone attenuator.

Rawk on!
